My roommate and her boyfriend met working on the Marc Elrich campaign. He is a Democratic Socialists of America member and got her to join, and she grew up Christian Conservative.

A bunch of people in my yoga class turned out to be Socialists.

Some other friends in my building were holding DSA meetings and joined them as well, before all this happened.

Now these same people are all ranting on Facebook about how the pandemic is all about income inequality.

Did I just end up in a weird circle or is everyone under 30 in DC, Silver Spring, Takoma Park and Bethesda enamored with AOC?

As a matter of fact I earn well into the 6 figures and I’m married with children. One cat but I don’t like him all that much. I think my tax dollars should be used toward different things than where they currently go, and I’d happily pay more if it meant better lives for people. I guess that makes me a cat loving, lonely, miserable old crone of a socialist.

Ha. OP hates socialists but doesn't realize how much socialism is ingrained into the US.

If you have any friends or family in the armed forces then you would realize that they benefit heavily from the government run medical systems that is the VA Health System, Military Health System and TRICARE.

Well, you are 28, lesbian, and live in Silver Spring. If you decided to go hetro (know it's not a choice ..) live in Loudon and go to sports bars, all your friends would be conservatives. You could probably make some older friends in Silver Spring who would be more middle of the road, but 8 years of FOX news telling everyone that Obama was a "socialist" made socialism sound pretty damn good to younger people.

No it's not. I'm not the pp but am from a military area and every female high school graduate who didn't go on to college wanted to marry someone with that sweet Tricare.

In fact a navy guy posted a video of a water spout a couple of years ago that went viral in my home area. He amended it with the fact that he was single and had Tricare so all the hot ladies should hit him up. My cousin, who wasn't able to afford insurance, was dumped for a guy with Tricare by his baby mama (and yes we are white.)

Those sweet military socialist benefits are incredibly popular.

If Obama and Joe Biden, then America is a socialist country. Think about where you live, that is socialist central. Also, do your friends really want more central economic planning? (not saying that is bad, but I find most people even really liberal ones do not favor central economic planning.)

Oh really? The only difference between the UK's NHS and the VA system is that its exclusive to the armed forces.
