On day 2 with a stubborn 3 yo. Told him we were running out of diapers (true) and needed him to help out. Every day without a diaper he gets a special toy. He gets to hold the box but not open it till end of day. So far peeing is good but hasn’t pooped yet. Kept in diaper for sleep.

Using a pot is something he needs to do and should not get a toy for pooping!

I was the pp.askinf how it was going. Any thoughts about whether or not to start training given parent stress levels?

I was the pp with the twin boys who started training last week. I think everyone's situation is different, and there are some aspects of this training that really made me freaking crazy for a couple of days, but on balance, it's been totally worth it. The first twin who just constantly peed his pants this first day really started to get it after day 3 or 4 and has had hardly any accidents, and goes to the potty on his own without us telling him (and has done two poops in the potty on his own volition!) The second twin (who was better the first day) got stubborn and defiant 3-4 days in (maybe we were praising his brother too much, I'm not sure) and it drove us nuts, but after just taking a breath and deciding to stay cool and not caring if he went or not, he seemed to calm down too and has hardly had any accidents. We go out once a day for a 30-60 minute walk in the neighborhood and they have both stayed dry in their undies every single time. Anyway, it's sad to be so proud of things like this, but I am! And I cannot think of any other time when I would've had the patience or time to do this given that DH and I have such busy work schedules. This is definitely taking longer than 3 days, but the progress is amazing. Do it if you can!

That’s definitely not too young- both of my kids were trained by then!

+1 - definitely not too young!

Agree! Definitely not too young. Today was Day 1 for us with our 23 MO and it went really well.

My son is 23 months but isn’t showing a lot of signs of readiness. What signs did your child show? I’m tempted to go for it if we will be home for a month. Otherwise I was going to wait for the fall because we are having another baby this summer. One of the challenges will be that my son mostly poops in the morning or at nap time as he is waking up.

Download oh crap on your kindle and get started!

Okay we are starting as soon as the potty supplies arrive. Did your 23-month-old use potty chairs or a seat for the big potty to start? I think I'm going to order the Baby Bjorn chairs because they have a higher splashguard than the Oxo ones. And then maybe get the Munchkin or Oxo seats and the Oxo travel potty. Happy to take advice on supplies!

Just writing to update that this is going well for us! We read Oh Crap and went for it. Lots of pee accidents the first day and one accident or less since per day since then. My son only needed two days without pants and has been commando in pants for the last week. We are so proud of him and more importantly he is so proud of himself. It’s not the most fun parenting task, but the time at home right now is ideal. If you’re on the fence, go for it!!
