If she is going to W&M that means she got in ED. Did your DD not withdraw her other applications? |
ED2. She did not realize she had to withdraw the apps until 2 days ago, and withdrew the AM, but was locked out of withdrawing tech.... |
So she signed the ED agreement without reading it? They all say you have to withdraw other applications immediately. Of course, you'll probably blow this off, but this stuff is why this process gets more cumbersome and frustrating for the kids going through it. |
When I discovered that she had not withdrawn the applications/refused other acceptances, I told her to do it. But, first the timeline: We did not get confirmation of the ED2 acceptance until early Feb (enough schools sent the email to the wrong students, that I wanted to verify everything first). two weeks later (early this week), I found out it was not done. VT had locked down the portal for changes on Thursday when DD tried. DD took care of the other schools on Thurs. And rejected VT on Friday. Yeah, DD could have been more responsive, but it was not like she was ED1, notified two months ago. |
FYI, you don’t have to change it in the portal. You just send a quick email to admissions asking to withdraw your application. |
Lighten up... this could be PPs first rodeo with college apps these days. No “why in the world” necessary. PP did state: it wouldn’t be expected, except that other correspondence did go to Both kid and parent |
No that's VT admissions making this all cumbersome. |
| What happened? It seems that a lot of strong candidates were waitlisted this year. I know it must be partially due to what happened last year, but why are they accepting so many much weaker candidates and rejecting stronger ones? |
Tech admits by Major. Back in the day, if you did not get into your preferred major, you still had a chance at another major. Not anymore |
Wonder how this strategy will play out long term. I know they’ve framed a future vision, but I only understand part of it. The opening opportunities to diverse students( first gen, underrepresented...) I get. The one major, I don’t understand as part of the university vision. In fact, it annoys me that students are not encouraged to explore more disciplines. They have Many really interesting majors and a narrow path of exploration. It’s difficult to find best fits when you have to declare so early. Congrats to those 17 and 18 year olds who know, but there are so many who have yet to figure out how to apply their skill set. |
What happens when someone doesn’t like their major as a freshman or sophomore? |
| There is a much higher emphasis on fist gen and underrepresented groups. Their stated goal is 40% underrepresented students. |
| I hope this continues so my DC who really wants to go there does not get in. |
Can to elaborate on that statement? Sounds like you are a white middle class parent that doesn't want your kid to go to Tech even though your kid really does want to go? |
Tech dropped the "undecided" major? That used to be where the engineering applicants who didn't get into engineering were plopped. |
