It’s VT admissions - of course they screwed it up.

Let students log into a secure portal and see things there.

To clarify, the email simply announced the date the notifications would be posted in the portals. It was likely in response to the many calls/emails they were getting trying to confirm the date.

For the folks that keep saying VT is a safety...
I know many are basing that on the 70% acceptance rate, but it's important to dig into those numbers a little bit.
SCHEV has some interesting data on this.
For one thing, they admit a LOT of out of state applicants. More than in state. They can do that because far fewer out of state end up enrolling. So that's one thing that drives up the overall admit number.

When you look at the admit rate for students from NOVA, it's a different story.

% of applicants admitted 2017-2018
Arlington 69.7
Fairfax 60.4
Prince William 58.2
Alexandria City 55.1
Falls Church 41.2

% of applicant admitted 2018-2019
Arlington 55.9
Fairfax 55.6
Prince William 54.6
Alexandria City 50
Falls Church 45.4

Notice how none of the NOVA jurisdictions were getting 70% admit. Arlington came close two years ago, but significant decrease this past year. Now all of the NOVA jurisdictions are near 50% which is certainly not a safety. Also keeping in mind the acceptance rate will probably drop even further this year, because they have to adjust for the over-enrollment last year.

Nerve wracking.

Imagine how the UVA applicants must feel.

What personal data is in a heads up about date when something will be on a portal?

Yeah, I actually think this was a good way of doing things.

They probably started out the week 99% they could get it out by Friday, but wanted to give themselves just a little bit of wiggle room if anything cropped up. When they got to Thursday and it was all systems go, they sent out notice on social media that it would be out on Friday at 5pm.
That was them taking stuff on their end.

Meanwhile they sent out that email, because it was an opportunity for the student applicants to check out things on *their* end to make sure their portal was actually set up and ready to receive the info. Many applicants wouldn't have checked on their portal for months, if at all. By sending out the email mid-week, with specific instructions telling students to go check out their portal now, it gave students time to identify a problem, and either fix it themselves or get tech help from VT staff now, so they aren't stuck over the weekend with no remedy.

Only 6 1/2 hours to go....

Results are out. I’m an anxious momma whose on DCUM and CC, but my kid thinks it’s Feb 22 as the email stated. Will wait on him to figure it out. Hopefully he’ll let us know before he opens. We Want to be with him in case it’s disappointing news tho. And are ready to celebrate with him if it’s positive!!

(I wouldn't had even expected them to go to parents, but they did send something earlier about scholarship deadlines.)

You are not the applicant your DC is. Why in the world would parents get the email?

It looks like at least some of them are. My DD was accepted,
College if Science, Psychology major
but there is a "notes" field that says "not accepted to honors".
4.2 WGPA
3.7 GPA
4 years varsity sport
