Historically that's been the case. But after last year's poor forecasting, some of this year's results suggest that they are starting to yield-protect so if you have stats above their average you are at risk of being waitlisted. A lot of high stats kids got waitlisted while lower ones were accepted. |
I saw that on their website under the Diversity Strategic Plan. That goal is supposed to be reached by incoming freshman 2022. |
| Underrepresented is our future. This makes sense. There’s no hand-holding at Tech. Focus and independence help a lot. |
So did my kid. admitted, but not accepted to Honors College. Admitted to other Honors colleges in state. |
| Dd accepted to env sci, 4.2 1420 |
Ah, then our kids are facing similar deliberations. I don't think there is any one "right" answer for this, but I'm curious how your family is approaching weighing the option of Virginia Tech non-homors vs. Other Colleges with Honors. |
We are still deciding but I think DD is leaning towards Honors college since it's a much smaller cohort. We are also weighing other factors too given that VT has a stronger Engineering program. |
| Read this morning that VT offers more hands-on cool lab opportunities at the undergrad level than some places, so that’s worth weighing. Also, some students are invited to the Honors college later. And some are happy with the science and engineering LLCs. Instate is a bargain, though intro level classes are big. Finding smaller groups of people to enjoy is key, and that means looking for those clubs early on. Lots of performing arts brought in, but still small town. |
