Age not to take boy into restaurant ladies bathroom

What’s the dirty look even for? There are stalls...why should she care if a boy is in there?

I have a 5 year old boy and would never send him Into the men’s room alone. I think he could manage but there are just too many creeps and weirdos out there.

I would also like to point out to all the nosy Nellies that sometimes you can't be sure the gender of the child. My 8-year old daughter has short hair and is often called a boy. I see her get looks when we go into the bathroom. MYOB everyone!

My boys used the ladies room with me until they were at least seven or eight - and then refused. I never got a questioning glance.

Then again, as a woman, I have never once given a thought to who was in the bathroom stall next to mine. And I am perfectly comfortable with anyone on earth watching me wash my hands.

Same.

Under 13, I wouldn't care.

I have tween girls and they would be extremely uncomfortable with 10, 11 and 12 year old boys in the ladies’ room. That’s too old.

Where are all of you taking your sons into women’s restrooms? I have never seen a boy older than 4 or 5 come into the bathroom with his mom, and it’s pretty rare for me to see even that.

Bathrooms shouldn’t be gendered anymore anyway. Take him with you as long as you both are comfortable. Go with him to the “men’s” room if the line’s too long for the “women’s” room.

So, are you ok with your 10 year old going into a bathroom alone? You might feel different with boys.

Three pages of comments, and no one mentions this?

My boys never pee’d sitting down. What do you mean, he “still” sits to potty? Stand him up!

Where it starts to bother me is family places that are already busy and where I can clearly see that a dad or some male family member is present. I really dislike it when I see all siblings of both genders follow mom in while dad lounges around. I see this at family restaurants, the gym with a kids’ club, and especially the pool. It makes the women’s locker rooms and bathrooms perpetually busy, dirtier, and more crowded.

Stop saying potty right now. Also don't say poopy or any cutesy words for peeing.

I am serious. What would you say instead of potty? Go to restroom or bathroom?
And, for poop & pee these kiddy words, what are better words? Bowel movement (represent poop) or urine (represent pee)? Or just say do you need to use bathroom?

I care because those of you have that no control whatsoever over your kids anymore will zone out while letting that 5 year old crawl around on the floor and peek up until the stall I'm in. While you continue to zone out/stare into the air. It gets old.

Yes, it's not the kid being there that I care about, it's when the adult lets them look into stalls from the cracks in between or underneath. I still remember a boy doing this, probably about 6 years old, in a women's changing room at a department store.

Sure. Bring the kid in with you. Keep them in the stall with you, though. If they are too old to be in the stall with you, then there's your answer.

In my world, men only stand to pee if it is a urinal situation. Barring having to pee in a urinal, they sit. Who wants boys spraying down their bathroom with piss?
