Best places to get ears pierced in dc for third grader

They used Titanium and gold and we did not have to do more than keep the area relatively clean. No turning the studs, no special cleansers required. Such a better experience than I had at age 8 with mall piercing that got gunky and fused into my lobes.

That’s where we will go too. Do they have simple gold balls as starter earrings?

Please, please, please go to a professional bodypiercer, who - unlike Claire's, mall kiosks, or even your pediatrician - is actually licensed and regulated for exactly this procedure: body piercing. Piercing guns cannot be sterialized in an autoclave the way needles can, and also cause much more trauma and damage than a hollow piercing needle does. Any reputable piercing shop will be sanitary, professional, and understanding, and your kid will not be their first underage client and will not be faced with pictures of naked lades (all you pearl-clutchers clearly have never been to a piercing shop).

- Mom who got her first ear piercings done by a gun but all subsequent ear and other body piercings done by needle and actually knows what I'm talking about.

The guns are single use and absolutely come sterilized. Then thrown out. It was totally fine for both my kids.

Is Brilliance in Vienna considered a professional body piercer? It’s not a tattoo shop.

It is the law that they can’t pierce anyone under 18, even with parental consent. Your only option in DC is the pediatrician (admittedly I’m not sure if Claire’s does it in Union Station - didn’t even check there because I refused to take DD to a Claire’s/Icing). I didn’t want the pediatrician either because I wanted someone who pierced for a living. We went with Craig Pokes U in Arlington. Terrible name, but the experience was fantastic - they explained what they were doing every step of the way and made it very clear that she was in charge and they could stop at any time. Everything was very sterile, even more so than they do at the pediatrician. Highly recommend them!

Did the atmosphere of a tattoo shop scare your daughter? I am concerned about that. Also, do they have a good selection of beginner earrings? How much was the whole thing? Thanks.

LOL, what? What is the atmosphere of a tattoo shop? I can't with y'all.

Really? You can’t imagine all the images of naked women, demons, and skeletons with snakes coming out of their eyes possibly disturbing a child? Not to mention someone who may or may not have face tattoos and body modifications like a forked tongue or horns doing their piercing?

DP, lol, you have quite an imagination. I'm a PP whose 8yo wants to get her ears pierced. I have a somewhat large tattoo myself and would have no qualms taking my child to a tattoo parlor that does kids' piercings.

I’m the first person quoted here who took my DD to Craig Pokes U. No, the shop didn’t scare her. There are no images of forked tongues, etc. There is a fountain in the waiting room and she got a ring pop. Nothing scary about it.

And yes, they do have a good selection of beginner earrings - just go with the titanium instead of the gold (way more expensive!).

Yes, it’s a body piercing place, not a tattoo shop. And it’s a very lovely space, clean and spa like. My 2nd grader just got her ears pierced and it was a very good experience.

Go to your local doctor's office-- DD just had hers done and it was painless, sterile, no metal exposure bc they use medical grade plastic.

Just go to Claire's, Karen.

Yes, quite a nice selection of starter earrings including gold balls.

I had all of my ear piercings done at a Claire's/Piercing Pagoda, and they were fine, only a small infection on one of the non-primary holes Claire's did - but I will not be taking my daughter there because professional needle piercing is safer and a better method. The gun shoots a sharpened piece of metal through the ear; the needle hollows out a small tunnel for the earring. I'd also rather have a professional piercer do the work than a retail worker who only receives company training and probably spends more time on the register than piercing ears. Gun piercings can work just fine, but I don't think it's worth the risks.

I do hear that Fatty’s on H St is a nice tattoo parlor that will pierce kids’ ears, too.

Why do you need numbing cream? DD said it hurt less than the flu shot. She went to a professional piercing shop, though.

Our pediatrician did it for all three of our girls at around 12 years old.

It's actually much LESS painful than a gun. My daughter said it hurt less than a shot. She didn't even flinch and she STILL cries when she gets shots.

Craig Pokes U is a piercing shop. They have antique furniture in the lobby and the room they do the piercing in looks like a small patient room in a doctor's office, so, no, it did not scare my child. Also, there were about 8 other girls waiting to get their ears pierced and the people who work there could not have been nicer.

Great selection of earrings - the gold is expensive, but the titanium options are cute and affordable.

It doesn't sound like you've ever been in a tattoo or piercing shop before.
