We just went through this earlier this month, and are city residents as well. You can’t get it done at a tattoo/piercing parlor within DC city limits. It is the law that they can’t pierce anyone under 18, even with parental consent. Your only option in DC is the pediatrician (admittedly I’m not sure if Claire’s does it in Union Station - didn’t even check there because I refused to take DD to a Claire’s/Icing). I didn’t want the pediatrician either because I wanted someone who pierced for a living. We went with Craig Pokes U in Arlington. Terrible name, but the experience was fantastic - they explained what they were doing every step of the way and made it very clear that she was in charge and they could stop at any time. Everything was very sterile, even more so than they do at the pediatrician. Highly recommend them!
Did the atmosphere of a tattoo shop scare your daughter? I am concerned about that. Also, do they have a good selection of beginner earrings? How much was the whole thing? Thanks.
LOL, what? What is the atmosphere of a tattoo shop? I can't with y'all.
Really? You can’t imagine all the images of naked women, demons, and skeletons with snakes coming out of their eyes possibly disturbing a child? Not to mention someone who may or may not have face tattoos and body modifications like a forked tongue or horns doing their piercing?
DP, lol, you have quite an imagination. I'm a PP whose 8yo wants to get her ears pierced. I have a somewhat large tattoo myself and would have no qualms taking my child to a tattoo parlor that does kids' piercings.
I’m the first person quoted here who took my DD to Craig Pokes U. No, the shop didn’t scare her. There are no images of forked tongues, etc. There is a fountain in the waiting room and she got a ring pop. Nothing scary about it. And yes, they do have a good selection of beginner earrings - just go with the titanium instead of the gold (way more expensive!).
