My almost 9 y/o 3.rd grader has been wanting to get her ears pierced and I want to know the best place to go. We live in dc and I’ve heard that tattoo parlors are the best place. I don’t really spend much time in tattoo parlors and could use some guidance.
I also know nothing about earrings. Do I have to bring stainless steel studs with me. Are there particular ones I need to get. |
Just go to Claires. Easy and quick. |
Everything I’ve read says that is literally the worst place to go. Highest infection rate, error rate and most painful. |
Brilliance in Vienna. They undid the damage that Claire's did. |
We went to our pediatricians office and they did a phenomenal job |
If you live anywhere near the Hill, there’s an awesome nurse practitioner who does housecalls and will use numbing cream. She does a great job. My daughter had hers done at Claire’s first and then let them close up after an infection. Then we had Heidi @ Housecalls on the Hill.
I do hear that Fatty’s on H St is a nice tattoo parlor that will pierce kids’ ears, too. |
Call the tattoo parlor near you and ask what/if you need to bring anything. Do not go to Claire’s. Think about it - piercers are trained to do body mods. The worker at Claire’s may be in high school. |
Craig Pokes U in Arlington. |
Fattys has been around a long time with a good reputation. |
Yep, got my own ears pierced in third grade at Claire’s and it was super painful and I had months of infections—I’m also looking for somewhere else for my third grader. Any recs in NW DC or close-in MoCo? |
How? |
Bethesda Tattoo— they’re great. |
Very carefully. But it means your kid has to go through the procedure twice - once with uneven, infected piercings. Avoid this and go to Brilliance. You’re welcome. |
Both my girls went to Icing at the mall. No infection, no issues. FYI, pediatricians use the same “gun” as Icing/Claire’s. If you don’t want the “gun” your only option is a tattoo/piercing parlor. |
Claires did mine when I was 16 with no issues. I recall that the girl who pierced my ears (she was probably just out of high school at best lol) was very fastidious and cleaned everything carefully in front of us, and I was very fastidious about cleaning the area that was pierced each day. |
