If you're holding on to any machine for 30 minutes, you're doing it wrong. |
A stationary bike, a Jacob's ladder, some stair climbers, rowing machines- you can/should hold on to these. And certain people with balance issues should hold on to treadmills. I'm tired of the snotty comments on here about not holding on to machines. Some machines are literally designed to be gripped the entire yime (eg, I dare you to row without holding it the whole time). |
The holding on comments are not meant for things like Jacob's ladder and rowing machines and you know it. Please. |
They wouldn't have said "any" machine if they didn't mean it. And even if it was just about the treads, still snotty. Some people need to hang on and it's fine. Mind your own business in the gym. |
Seriously. And 99.99% of people don't need to hold on. If you want to improve your "balance issues" then walk at 1mph and work your way up. And stop leaning on the effing stair climber! If it doesn't involve your hands or elbows outside of the gym (walking, going up stairs), it doesn't involve hands inside the gym. |
If you are late to a class, do not crowd someone else's space.
Life happens, you are 15 minutes late. Ok, fine. But you find an open spot with lots of room, or you don't take the class if it's too crowded. Don't impact another person's workout because YOU are late. |
13:06 - that drives me crazy. And it's the same damn people who are late every single time. There's this one woman who walks in 2-10 minutes late to every yoga class at our gym, and she is very particular about where she stands. So she'll walk right up to the front and throw her mat down in a space not big enough for it, forcing 4 people (and the people next to them) to come out of down dog and move their mats to accommodate her. And they don't look happy about it. (Incidentally, her hair and makeup are always perfect when she does this. I wish she'd spend less time on that, so maybe she could get to class a couple minutes early like everyone else, and stake out a spot that doesn't require making others move.)
I bought a bunch of cheap hand towels at Bed Bath Beyond and I use them as gym towels. Spray them with the disinfectant and use to wipe the machines. Leaving a sheen of sweat on a machine is gross, and if you're a person who does this routinely, I'll remember. (It's almost as bad to take a new paper towel for each machine and throw them away - that's a lot of waste.) |
Don't take selfies in the middle of classes.
Don't take selfies THREE TIMES in the middle of a class. And especially don't take selfies THREE TIMES in the middle of a class if you can't return to your starting position or have a poor sense of space in a class. |
Urine is sterile, but do you mind when you're using a public toilet and there's pee on the seat? |
I'm usually late. I used to think that some of you were exaggerating until I watched a woman walk into barre class 15 mins late and then take over someone's spot in front. I was in shock. |
If there's a pool of sweat, you wipe it up, like like you would for pee on a seat. I don't wipe down dry toilet seats either before or after I use them. If you're asking people to wipe down because "omg germs! bacteria! ick!" on a machine that is relatively dry after they used it, that's absurd. Your phobia is on you. |

So then don't go to a gym, or take your own precautions and wipe down before you use any equipment or every single dumbbell. I'm not wasting wipes to add to the landfill because of your paranoia. I go the gym most days of the week, for years, and haven't even gotten a single cold in 2-3 years. |
Yes, and please comment on my body, too. I like that. |
Don't use pieces of equipment to hold your stuff. Drives me insane when people use things like the soft boxes or a bench just to hold their water bottle or phone. Put your thing on the floor so people who actually need the equipment can use it. |
