OPM/Federal Goverment Tone Deaf Weather response

I am sorry OP. Don't know why you get so many sanctimonious comments this morning. I am a single mom too and I get it. They really should have 3 administrative leave days per year that you could use when schools close.

Don't you have aftercare for your kids? The aftercare providers are usually open on snow days unless administrative offices are closed.

1. School is not child care
2. You need to have a backup plan for these situations
3. The federal government literally does not care that some people have children and failed to plan ahead

Is this a fed worker talking about no flexibility? You win the internet today.

He has no empathy that I am a single mom and that i have no back up today for this kind of thing. Why didn’t OPM foresee the weather delay for its employees outside of DC? They could have offered a delay or telework, but here we are again. No one thinks of caregivers or their families. A pathetic response. And one clearly made by males that don’t think outside the box on these things. Women in my position are shafted once again.

I hear you, but, uh, you know the director of OPM is a woman, right?

At least now you do.

Female managers are sometimes worse than males. Because they want to prove they aren’t weak or whatever. Especially the ones without children or someone to care for.

Or they are just organized people who think ahead and arrange for the care of their dependents without expecting special treatment.

I was a single mom of two for many years. Schools aren’t babysitters. Backup childcare is not a luxury. We ate a lot of cheap meals and wore thrift store clothing to be able to include backup care in our budget because you pay for it anyway if your pay is docked for missed hours.

Both good arguments. I simply wanted to point out this fact to OP so she doesn’t go around saying stupid things like this in real life - the OPM decision was clearly made by males!! No, probably not.

OPM director went to Catholic university where you learn to care about kids in the womb but don't care after they leave the womb.

GMAFB! This is about making the right decision for all... they should offer telework so police don't have to be on the road cleaning up accidents, putting their life in danger because some poor slub is trying to get to work because their boss is a dumb a$$.

What backup care do you have that you can call at 7am to be at your house in an hour I'm freezing rain? So you can be at be office by 9?

I work in private industry not the government and I cannot believe the posters you think the OPM should make decisions based on school delays. Our local elementary school has an after care program where my kids go and it is open on closed school days as long as the school administrative offices are open. Here at MCPS the administrative offices are open which means that kidsco will be open for business at my school. Having children means you have to be flexible. Businesses cannot accommodate every child care need.

You have a voice, use it!

Tweet at President Social Media and tell him this is ridiculous. He cares about Twitter, and he’s looking for good press. Just do it.

My back up plan is my child’s aftercare program which is also open when schools are closed
