| My kid goes to an MCPS elementary school. He doesn’t normally go to before or after care because we have an afternoon babysitter. But, I registered him with the provider and paid the $100 registration fee so I can use the service in situations like this. I just got a text that the before care is opening on time and I can drop him at the usual time. Check to see if your school’s before care has that option. |
| I can’t believe they haven’t updated yet. My dh is just chilling in bed waiting for them to announce a status. |
| Learn to cope, or it’s going to be a long winter. |
Or they are just organized people who think ahead and arrange for the care of their dependents without expecting special treatment. I was a single mom of two for many years. Schools aren’t babysitters. Backup childcare is not a luxury. We ate a lot of cheap meals and wore thrift store clothing to be able to include backup care in our budget because you pay for it anyway if your pay is docked for missed hours. |
| OPM still needs to update. I can’t believe they haven’t at nearly 7am. Liberal leave and telework would be reasonable based on the worsening conditions. |
Both good arguments. I simply wanted to point out this fact to OP so she doesn’t go around saying stupid things like this in real life - the OPM decision was clearly made by males!! No, probably not. |
+1. No woman ever advanced professionally by failing to be prepared. |
Did you just move here from Florida or something? Conditions are getting better as it switches over to all rain. It's mostly just wet outside. Go slow. You'll be ok. |
| It’s been updated, still open. |
Did you just move here? OPM’s status is still on December 15th. They need to update it!!! |
You married poorly. |
Montgomery county switched from a delay to closure. Clearly someone thinks conditions are worsening. |
OP, this. I am also a single mom but I don’t work for the federal government. Most people don’t and private businesses don’t close for snow days. You just have to go to work. You need a back up plan. |
| I’m surprised you think your manager has leeway on this. It’s against telework policy to work when kids requiring supervision are present in the home, and it’s not like he can just give you a day off. I’m sure he’s not trying to be unreasonable but just following the rules. |

Because it is just raining.
Your employer doesn't see you as a single mother- they see you as an employee. |
