Rewatching Sex and the City

It’s still one of my favorite shows. I never looked at it as anything other than a show that was funny. I didn’t relate to any of the women so maybe that’s why.

Wow! Are you that easily influenced?

Back then, I was. I went off to college and was popular and guys liked me and I didn't know what to do with you. You all are ignorant AF if you think this isn't common. I look back now and see a lot of WTF moments. But I'm married and have kids now. No abortions or STDs ever so I was always safe.

Lol hahah no. Don’t blame a ridiculous TV show for your lack of judgement. I’m your age too and didn’t feel the urge to hook up with lots of dudes because I saw that behavior on SATC each week.

And

“...I was popular and guys liked me...” I bet they did

Yes, it was basically propaganda for degeneracy and vapid thrill seeking that almost always leads to regrets, mental issues and IVF.

Mr. Big was a douche up through the finale and into the movies. I could never understand why he was considered a catch since he treated her horribly at every turn.

He was rich

Chris noth is so cute. Heartbreaking to see him degraded in that awful show.

Yeah,. He studied acting at Yale or Julliard so he was probably rolling his eyes the whole time (while happily depositing the $). https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2014/10/no-chris-noth-carrie-bradshaw-was-not-such-a-whore/381482/

I wasn't influenced by the show but my friends and I would definitely compare our long standing, unhealthy relationships with Big and Carrie. The show really romanticized their situation when in reality they had no business being together.

In my thirties I only watch it to call out the nonsense I didn't notice or understand in my 20s

More like it was so over the top it was nearly satire. Anyone who took the show seriously enough to be influenced into being more promiscuous was simply not very bright.

Really? Interesting. I am the same age/era but it made me want to have less sex because I thought it would make me as jaded as these women lmfao. "He licked my neck weird during sex and now I have to dump him."

Same here. I had less sex because I thought they were all whores, tbh.

Huh I just did what I'd been doing already because it was a TV show not real life

The first few seasons were really great.

Show does not pass the smell test two decades later.

And they had good banter/good sex, and actually seemed to like each other.

I was fifteen when the show began but I didn’t like it. Many of my friends worshipped the show and took a lot of the messages to heart. They did not see it as satire. It was aspirational. Some of the friends became brand obsessed and seemed to emulate the selfishness of the main characters.

I watched the show years later in college and didn’t care for it because I thought they were horrible friends. I also hated how much anything domestic was mocked (like Carrie storing sweaters in her oven) because I liked cooking and made extra money selling baked goods at a farmers market.

Loved the first season which was funny and basically just one off stories. I loved Charlotte visiting the artist who paints vaginas, Carrie hanging with the Eurotrash and the scene in the back of the cab when discussing Charlotte's boyfriend who wants to do something that can only be written in the explicit forum. Those were great.

I didn't like how it devolved into Carrie being a selfish idiot. And I hated the Carrie-Aidan relationship. Love Aidan but didn't buy them as a couple.
