Michelle Obama's Schiaparelli Gown Was Designed to Match Her "Strength and Energy"

Both of those things are how her body is shaped. Why does everything we wear have to "flatter" us to make our body a way it's not???

Why would you dress up for a glamorous event and spend thousands of dollars on an unflattering gown? This makes no sense.

One of the problem was the way the white and yellow was used in that dress. Also, wrong shade of yellow.

If it was a darker mustard on top and flared out to a lighter yellow gradually below her hips...she would look great. Instead the white was between her breasts and on her waist. Making her look terrible.

The corset stiching on her chest served to create seperation between her breasts, instead of creating an alluring cleavage. And the crystals were too garish. I love MO, love her whole family and am an avowed democrat and POC. It was a horrible choice.

Sometimes you see some bomb outfit on internet and then you order it and then you realize that the product is not like what was advertized!!

This is that.

I have never seen a woman of such high standing dress so poorly in such a consistent way.

I also highly respect her intellect and courage, and prefer someone like her with zero dress sense than others I could mention with perfect figures and lovely clothes but "who don't really care" about children in cages.

This dress is a crime against women.

It is COMPLETELY mismatched to her shape. The bust looks like two soap dishes randomly glued to her chest.

The color is also a bit too neon.

I wish she had different style advisors.

Agreed. She is beautiful and the gown was not. It did nothing for her strong, athletic body.

I am glad you mentioned that. In my opinion - and it's just that, one person's opinion- most of MO's bad outfits come from her either inability or reluctance to recognize what her build is, and dress the body she has, not the body she would like to have. I have no other explanation for little cardigans and dirndle skirts that were completely unsuitable to her face and body.

MO looks fantastic in strong, highly structured, architectural outfits with bold strong lines. She CANNOT wear anything described as cute, overtly feminine, soft, floral etc. without looking like a transvestite. When she embraces her amazon side, she is stunning. But she needs to own it, and unfortunately she doesn't always.

Lol I don’t think that’s how this worked for her.

I'd loved some examples of this or designers you'd pick for her.

Yeah this was custom Schiaparelli, not some 20 dollar Amazon dress from China.

Whoa, not at all flattering on her at all. What on earth has happened to her fashion taste?

IDK. I think she 'constrained' herself during her first lady years and now that she can afford $2,000 Balenciaga boots without blinking is going a little wild.

At least Barack hasn't taken up fedoras and plaid pants.

Some of her State dinner gowns were amazing.

These all have structured waists to emphasize that she is fit while giving her a feminine aura.

She also tended to let her arms (wonderfully toned) do the talking.

It looks like the gowns that worked well for her were either flaring or A-line. The Schiaparelli gown above is a Trumpet style and made for very narrow silhouettes without a bust or hips. I think the dark teal she is wearing might also be Trumpet but the fit and design is world's better.

Because the Obamas cannot survive without attention. They need to go away and get quiet.
