Why are there always so many blue collar men at 7-11?

The coffee is delicious. The mystery is why does the clientele seem to be exclusively blue collar men?'

I don't know the answer to your question except to say, I never really go to 7-11 or convenience stores like that.

Really? You never have to stop off and pick up a gallon of milk on the way home? You never have a craving for a Twix bar? It just seems like the type of place that everyone would ultilize, yet it seems like the population you typically see there isn't an acurrate cross section of the population at large?

Np. I never go to 7-11. I used to when I was a teenager. I bought candy.

So what happens when you realize your low on milk, do you actually go to a full blown grocery store just for that?

NP here. I do. I live in McLean, which has ( I think) 2 7-11s. I have never gone into either of them, for no real reason. There aren't any panhandlers outside of them, and I have no idea what type of clientele is in there--teens I suspect, since I know my son and his friends have gone in for Slurpees or Slushees or whatever those things are.

I just tend to dash into the grocery store even for the milk because it's still just as easy here, and I inevitably have run low or forgotten something besides milk anyway.

But that aside, because 7-11 has EVERYTHING! Quick and easy + casual!

Look people, the question isn't why would a blue collar man want to go to 7-11. The question was since presumable everyone goes to 7-11 (although maybe I'm wrong on that) why does it always seem to disproportionately be blue collar men who are there whenever, I go.

Maybe you see my BIL in there. He has a doctorate in piano performance but dresses very casually at times. He stops by 7-11 a lot on his way home after late-night gigs to get junk food.

Wow. These responses are truly surprising I guess I was wrong on my assessment that everyone goes to 7-11. To answer your question as to what would you need there, well bread, milk, toilet paper. Things people tend to run out of in between shopping trips. If all you need is a loaf of bread, it's a million times easier to stop off at a 7-11 instead of go inside a grocery store. I do find it fascinating that so many people say they never go. Maybe I should start a thread asking "why don't middle class people ever need to stop off at convenience stores?"

7-11 is Junk Food Central.

No more no less.

Lower class people are more likely to smoke cigarettes and eat garbage food. Upper class people usually avoid 7-11 in order to avoid coming into contact with the lower class.

We are UMC and go to the organic market two blocks from our house. We walk there and take our reusable bags. And they don’t sell cigarettes.

Does your BIL have neck tattoos?

But there really aren't many other stores that are that convenient. And what about when you get gas? Isn't it pretty common for people to run in the store and pick up something when they fill up their tank? I'm beginning to feel like a freak.

I've wondered this too and think it's bad money management skills. They aren't packing lunches or making coffee at home (like I do and especially had to when I made under 40k).

NP no, never. There's pretty much nothing I would eat there during a roadtrip. I do get coffee there during roadtrips though. We always have a cooler with fruits and veggies for the ride and we make sandwiches.

I don't snack in a normal day. I have set meals and don't eat between them.

NP. I go to 7-11 relatively frequently but I would never buy milk or other grocery items from there. I have a since expiration is not as long but that could be a bias of mine because I certainly haven't check in over 20 years. I usually go if I want a quick snack or drink. Sometimes I go because I just so happen to be renting a redbox movie so its convenient.

So what happens when you realize your low on milk, do you actually go to a full blown grocery store just for that?

7-11 has fruit, vegetables and sandwiches.

One reason I dont go to 7-11/convenience store type places is it's expensive. Just go the grocery store. I might pop for a soda/chips when on vacation and getting gas but other than that no reason to go there.
