i would think that many have HOA's that are 1000 or whereabouts.

do many middle class end up renting bc it's so expensive ?

You can find 2-bedroom units under $500K in Sumner Village. For example: https://www.redfin.com/MD/Bethesda/4974-Sentinel-Dr-20816/unit-405/home/143215289

this has 1000$ in HOA fees. what a waste.

That's why it's been on the market for 153 days. There is a huge oversupply of condos in MoCo. And, it's just going to get worse with the new accessory apartment rules, plus the overdevelopment in the County. So many condos/apartments for rent and for sale.

It's odd that there are so many condos/apartments for rent and for sale, and yet the prices remain high, and the developers (who don't make money if the units remain vacant/don't sell) keep wanting to build more. Isn't it?

No, there are clear guidelines.

Cram their families into 2-bedroom condos.

My well-off but not wealthy family would like to take a cruise around the word? What should we do? Um..pack the car and go to the beach with all the other well off but not wealthy families. Look in to other clusters to find one that you are happy with and can afford.

If Whitman really is comparable to a cruise around the world, and is only accessible by people who can afford a cruise around the world - that's a problem, isn't it? Whitman is a public high school.

No, Whitman is not the problem pp, well-educated families are going to ensure their children do well no matter the school building, environment or neighborhood. You could literally put all the Whitman families at Kennedy HS and those kids will do well. Stop blaming the schools, the boundaries and everything else. Be a parent and continue to invest in your children. Whitman is not a cruise around the world, nor is Georgetown Day, Landon or any other school. It all boils down to valuation.

I don’t understand why people are always upset that many in this region worked hard for what resources that have and thus have a Fair right to live where they desire. Stop your whining, pp and focus on bettering yourself. No one is entitled to anything or anyone else’s resources.

OP, don’t try to keep up with the Joneses, purchase what you can afford now and sell later if you desire the Whitman cluster. Boundaries are always changing in the county, the curriculum is the same wherever you go. The only thing that is not the same is family values, attitudes and environment. Even at Whitman there will be a variety of the aforementioned.

Who is telling people with money where they can't live?

Why should someone who are in their early 30s, with a BA degree and having three kids think they should have same amont of wealth as those who have law or MD degrees, who have kids until late 30s, who have been clambing cooperate ladders for over 15 years, etc. Nowadays, the new college gratuate could earn upto $150K a year or become a casher in retail.
If you feel your earning could not satisfy your desire to live where you want to live, you should try to figure out how others do it and motivate yourself to make more money or adjust your expectation.
There are MPDUs in almost every new development in MC. You can buy a brand new townhouse for lees than $200K next to million dollar house in Bethesda. This is another way to buy cheap but live in expansive area.
We bought our first house in Germantown because that was where we can afford. When our first child reached school age, we moved to a place to reduce our coomute time. Then we moved again to a bigger house in Bethesda. It takes time to accumulate wealth. If you dont have a trust fund, start small and save as much as you can. One day, you will find you live in your dream home.

Why should a public high school be only for the children of people who have a lot of money?

Because being poor is supposed to disincentivize sucking. We have a neighborhood concept and some neighborhoods require you to be able to tread water. There are plenty of silver springs in the world, leave the few nice places alone

Neighborhoods, maybe. Public schools, not so much.

I used to think the W schools were superior until a pal stepped into one as a teacher.

bright person, holds advanced degrees, engaging lessons - NOT impressed with many of the kids, however

And the climate at her school is hostile to minorities.

no thanks
