550 k in walt whitman

550k for a home? In the DC area, yes, middle class. It’s still high for a condo, but if we are talking about monthly mortgage, you can pay that on $100k total household income if you don’t have a lot of other debt. And $50k per person x2 in the DC area is definitely not more than middle class.

LOL! There was a poster in another thread claiming that her $600K home in Rockville qualified as middle class.

DH and I both work, and there is no way we could swing a 600K home. 550K on a 100K salary is actually quite high, and doesn't leave much money for college savings, retirement savings and student loan payments.

Exactly. We stretched at $370K for our house. You cannot afford that on $100K.

i would think that many have HOA's that are 1000 or whereabouts.

do many middle class end up renting bc it's so expensive ?

You can find 2-bedroom units under $500K in Sumner Village. For example: https://www.redfin.com/MD/Bethesda/4974-Sentinel-Dr-20816/unit-405/home/143215289

this has 1000$ in HOA fees. what a waste.

That's why it's been on the market for 153 days. There is a huge oversupply of condos in MoCo. And, it's just going to get worse with the new accessory apartment rules, plus the overdevelopment in the County. So many condos/apartments for rent and for sale.

Okay, I’m the PP who said you can afford the mortgage on that house at $100k (which is $25/hr x 2 people working F/T). It’s potentially a stretch, but DH and I own a $525k house on $110k total income. We only save a little, have one kid, and we don’t have other debt, but honestly think you still qualify as middle class around here at $150k total HHI, and that might be more comfortable and/or include another debt payment.

Looks like it has a 24-hour manned security booth? That's gotta be what's driving up those fees.

And it looks like no Assigned parking spaces. And a stacked washer/dryer. That is crazy. This is not NYC.

There are a number of apartment buildings along Westbard Avenue and that area is zoned for Whitman.

Bethesda Place townhouses at the end of Greentree Rd are Burning Tree/Pyle/Whitman. A smaller, not-yet-renovated model would fall around $550k. Hoa is low. Nice community.
