| Wait! Standard operating procedure dictates that every couple and embryo be DNA matched before implantation, right? In this recent birth, the carrier parents were Asian but babies did not appear Asian which led to DNA test. It makes no sense! |
Uh, no. This isn’t a thing. Some people do pre-implantation genetic diagnosis/analysis, but even that is looking for a specific disease carriers, not who a kid belongs to. It’s a heartbreaking story. I really feel for the woman who involuntarily lost a year of her fertility carrying somebody else’s babies. It’s forced surrogacy, and I hope she gets an award big enough to shut down that damn clinic. |
What about this does not make sense? The clinic erroneously transferred the wrong embryo. |
SO MANY ERRORS!!! One baby would be bad enough, but two embryos from completely different women?! WTF? Were they using an erasable pen to mark the tubes?! My heart breaks for the woman who carried those twins. To go through the intense and difficult journey of twin pregnancy only to end up with ZERO babies at the end is just a complete and total horror show. |
| How awful for everyone involved. My heart breaks for the woman who gave birth. |
| I hope those other couples thanked that woman. Not just talking about how the other mother missed out on the chance to carry a baby. Plenty of people don't do that, but this other woman risked her health to carry babies that weren't hers, albeit unwittingly. I would hope they are able to realize what a gift in itself that is. |
It doesn't make sense that a DNA match test before implantation at the location is not a standard procedure. Of course a life altering mistake was made. That wasn't my point. |
|
I hope the NY woman is able to try again and successfully carry a baby of her own that she can keep. Such a sad story all around.
PP makes an interesting point about whether Anni could have carried the fetus to term. So many unknowns here. |
As if infertility wasn't difficult enough, this poor lady carried/bonded with twins neither of which were hers (so where are HER embryos?? Is someone else pregnant w/ her baby?). She and her dh are right back where they started- no baby to take home. Given hope, taken away. So cruel. I hope the clinic pays for lifelong therapy for everyone. They're going to need it. |
Which is why she should be thanking the other woman. I assume it won't be mentioned in the press because of the pending lawsuits. |
Well I think the woman who gave birth tried to keep the babies. I can't blame her after the emotional roller coaster she went through, but I don't think this was a kumbaya relationship. Maybe one day.... |
Yes, true. Maybe the clinic can get her a surrogate? But then its someone else risking their life to have a child. |
| Err, I would be surprised if the clinic survived such a massive f-up. But yes, hopefully the NY couple will get a significant monetary award to enable them to fulfil their dream of having a family and eventually overcoming the trauma of this experience. |

Where are the embryos from the Asian couple who carried the twins?
Also if the couple had been white they might have never realized the embryo mix up. So messed up. |
I've been interviewed before. It's entirely possible that she did worry about her baby but the reporter didn't include the quote. I wouldn't assume the interview was fully reported. |
