Reckless Driving in Virginia

You knew you were speeding and 58 in a 30 (but really probably a 25) is outrageously reckless. You don't seem to get why we are horrified: you were reckless but won't own up.

Here is the story:

I was on my way to my way to work after dropping my son off at daycare, the cop was in the bushes of a neighborhood in McLean with a speed radar gun

I see him walk out of the street, then signal me down to pull over. There was about 3 cars pulled over for the same thing.

So I pull over, he tells me a I was speeding, then writes me a ticket for wreck less driving and boom

Most of the McLean “speed traps” are 25 (eg Kirby between Great Falls and Rt 7 0r Old Chesterbrook from the bridge to Westmoreland). I can’t think of a place that is 30. I know 25 ad 35 all over the place. Where was this?

Yes exactly where it was, where you are mentioning. I was on my way to work/dropping my son off at a daycare close by the speed is 35 mph

So “30 something” changed to going 58 in a 30mph zone? If the neighborhood part is true, the posted speed wasn’t higher than 25.
In any event, the police have discretion to tack on reckless anytime. But for 20+ over, it’s standard.

Get a lawyer, and proactively do the driving school. Maybe have your speedometer calibrated.

I know two people who had reckless charges. The one who was going 80 on an interstate and was visibly humbled by the experience got probation. The one who was actually endangering others and acted like a stereotypical DC lawyer d-bag got his license suspended for six months.
