She does say she's a doula and clearly into alternative medicine--the fundme is to send her to a Kansas alternative medicine facility for problems she has due to a "stomach rupture" (perhaps a self-diagnosis? otherwise you'd think there would be more about actual hospitals). Well, I'll be damned PP you're right. I notice she never once says she's had any kind of skilled medical training or any certifications either. She's a quack who homeschools.

You can find not-very-good studies which show home births are safer, but check the comparison groups. They are not comparing groups at similar risk levels.

I didn't. New.poster there. This here is only my second post in this thread. I almost never resort to name calling, eben in retaliation. It doesn't advance discourse or help understanding.

And in calling people names and insulting them, you're ignoring relevant statistics. That's not useful at all.


This is a bad situation. A potentially bad actor (this midwife) conned ( or the mother herself let herself be conned,).
But this is a separate issue from the existence of home birth in general.

Inany situation, there are always bad actors. Doesn't mean we throw up our hands and call the whole thing bad.

No one would ever fly in that case considering almost every plane crash is pilot error.

And you don't have to be a home birther to see their side of the issue. I'm not.

I am not sure how you can legitimately make the claim that the behavior in this case wasn't grossly negligent.

And yes, the idealization of natural birth is cult-like.

I don’t think it’s fair to lump all home births with this specific bone birth. Home births can be safe, when low risk, supervised by a professional well trained attendant who will recognize signs of trouble quickly, and there is clear plan b in place for if complications happen and easy and quick option to get to a hospital.

This was exact opposite. The birth was high risk due to breech. The attendant had zero training and no ability to recognize when things got beyond her ability - she had so little knowledge that she couldn’t envision the multiple scenarios breech vaginal birth complications.

Her having 2 or 4 children does not qualify her to attend births, just like me having 2 csections does not qualify me to perform
