Midwife charged after at-home birth ends in death of baby

Maybe run a background and/or license check before you put your life or your newborn's in someone's hands.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services said Hock does not hold a medical certification or license in the state to be a practicing midwife, according to police.

Noe said she paid Hock in the range of $3,000 to $4,000 to retain her services, according to the affidavit.

Lessman, the OB-GYN on-call, said the baby’s death could have been prevented “had appropriate medical care been provided in a timely manner,” according to the affidavit, and “the medical steps taken by Hock were performed negligently.”

The article says the mom realized the baby was breech hours before it died. The midwife assured her she could handle it until she gave up and called 9/11.

So they both knew.

I agree and I'm a certified nurse midwife. Some of my colleagues wound disagree but I would
never be comfortable with this.

Let's post some articles on how many women and babies have died because they went to a hospital instead of staying home. I guarantee the number far exceeds the number mentioned in this article. Home births are always safer. Fact. Of course there are a few outliers for whom a hospital birth is necessary, but they're truly outliers. Most home births are safe and most are much safer than being in a germy money making hospital with dozens of hands in the pot, none knowing what the other is doing. Women, especially black women, die in hospitals every day. The United States has the WORST infant mortality rate of ANY developed nation, and we also have the highest rate of hospital births.

Also, it says she wasn't licensed IN THAT STATE, not that she had no training and wasn't licensed at all anywhere.

So...you asked your doctor for his SSN and address so you could run a background check before hiring him to care for you? I bet that went over well.

fully vaccinated, dumb ass. Not wanting to give birth in a hospital has nothing to do with not wanting to get polio (which would land one in a hospital.) See how that works?
