Yep. But it’s getting tired. Are her fans really that stupid? She a 30 year old multimillionaire and not a victim. |
YES. It makes sense because that is what she and all other artist sign on to. Paul McCartney doesn’t own the early Beatle catalogue. When you sell your rights - you sell your rights. If you were an artist and accepted money for the sale of a painting you did, should you get it back because you think the owner is “gross@. Taylor could buy her music back. |
Apparently she couldn't... |
| I read her full statement and I think you just don’t like Taylor Swift. It’s a strong message, not immature in the least. I feel for any young artist who signs a deal at 15 only to find out years later she got screwed. |
She was never “screwed” and never said she was screwed. She left that company when she wanted to and has moved on. She is pretending to be so upset because Scooter Braun bought the company. And it’s so transparently another one of her “boo boo people are mean to me” publicity trick she always does before she releases a new album. And she did it here - she calls Scooter Braun a bully and links her new album to her tearful post. |
| Did Paul McCartney prevail when Michael Jackson bought The Beatles' catalog? |
I still don't get what action she is hoping for by riling up her fans? Scooter owns the masters. Does she think he will GIVE them to her because her fans are angry? This is a matter for the courts, the actual judicial system, not the court of public opinion. |
Eventually. At least 56 years later. https://liveforlivemusic.com/news/paul-mccartney-beatles-rights-win/ |
+1 And she’s a bully. |
|
This is a good synopsis of what happened.
https://www.tmz.com/2019/06/30/taylor-swift-blasts-scooter-braun-bullying-purchase-music-big-machine/ OP is right, Taylor is a petulant child. I believe she knew about the sale. This is a tactic of hers as others have said. Old trick for her to promote her albums. At 300M she was never in the running to buy her catalogue if her net worth really is 320M. And if she wants to be pissed at not having the rights to her work - then she needs to look to those that acted on her behalf when her contract was signed at 15. |
Whether she knew at 9pm or in the morning seems immaterial. What difference would those hours make? This was unexpected, wasn't what she wanted. Why shouldn't she complain? |
I think the issue is she is always complaining. She is always wronged, she is always the victim. I think people who aren't her fans -- not necessarily haters but just people who don't listen aren't part of the Swifties -- are tired of that. You can cry wolf too much so when a legitimate issue comes up it resonates like "oh, here we go again." Perhaps that's not fair to her but it is what it is. |
So many artists get stuck in bad contracts. I have friends and family who are musicians with bad contracts with labels. I'm not a fan but I'm on her side with this. |
Well my advice to Taylor is that she take this issue to the courts. Her fans can't help her here. Bad contract, good contract, Scooter is not just handing over $300 million worth of property because her fans are outraged. She has more standing than most to challenge this industry practice. |
There is zero chance she only knew about the sale for hours. But at the end of the day, she was never going to be able to afford the purchase so why the tantrum? As others have posted, what is she hoping to gain by whining on social media - other than album sales. If she has been so wronged, then she should sue. Look at how well that’s worked out for Kesha... |
