Feel helpless as a vegetarian

Anonymous
I lost 5 lbs unexpectedly when I cut out gluten (to see if it helped chronic sinusitis). Vegetarian/pescatarian for 30+ years. I look at myself in my 20s and was so puffy. I think it was gluten grains and processed foods.

You can do this! As others have suggested, just add more healthy fats into your diet like no sugar nut butters and avocados, and if you are really need of more protein, there's always vegan protein powders.

Then do some cardio to lose a little weight, but really rely on strength training with weights. You won't be able to trust the scale because muscle weighs more than fat, but you'll easily notice a difference with the way you look and your clothes fit.
.

Np here. I get hung up on what exactly to add the nut butter and avocado to. I love sandwiches and wraps, but the bread adds carbs, right? How do you consumed nut butters and avocado, etc?

I like dipping apple slices into nut butter. I eat sliced avocado with egg or on a salad.

When you are short, 5 lbs can put you two clothing sizes up easy.

I'm 5'3" and it takes 10 lbs for me to go up or down a clothing size. I guess you're talking about 4' something?

Fellow vegetarian. This advice is not helpful if you do not eat because of religious reasons.

If you're a vegetarian, you should know there are many, many sources of vegetarian protein.

These are good choices.

I make egg and chicken salad with avocado and little/no mayo. I love to slice up a small avocado, sprinkle on some flavored salt and have it for a snack.

Not a vegetarian but I don't eat much meat. Between eggs, protein shakes and salmon, you should be able to find plenty of protein rich options.

Yeah, that advice is not helpful at all regardless of the reason for not eating meat.

OP, what does your current diet look like? Cut down any refined grains, added sugar, refined flours and processed foods and replace them with some whole grains (quinoa/steel cut oats, oat groats, brown rice) and healthy plant based fats - nuts, seeds, avocados. Do you eat beans/legumes for protein?

That and strength training/weights should help

Don't cut carbs. Just choose healthy ones. And strength train.
