There's no need to be snarky just because you can't afford their clothes.

Clearly more people than the PP can't afford their clothes, because they're going out of business. I only went there once to get my son something fancy to wear to a wedding. Pretty stuff, but I thought it was really pricey for special occasion clothes they wouldn't wear much.

Went to Gymboree at Tysons, the stuff was on sale and still expensive, horrible quality. I have only bought sunglasses from J and J lately. The clothes are too uptight and for occasions that we don't have.
Jack and the Cat all the way or HA on sale, and I mean under $10.

This is the OP. The clerk may have been incorrect about the gift cards being invalid, but there were definitely bold “25% off everything!” Signs plastered all over the store.

Well I just went to the website and they're saying all sales are final until further notice. Sounds like the clerk had it exactly right.

You’re right. It seems to be a very successful business they are running.

Just got 2 emails from them announcing a liquidation sale until further notice, and all sales final.

Aw....It's on their website now too.
My kids are too old for Janie and Jack now but this still makes me sad.

I love classic kids clothing, but other than holiday wear, couldn't imagine dressing my kids in J&J clothing on a regular basis. It would be worn outside and trashed within minutes.

Um, they’re going out of business because their parent company, Gymboree, mismanaged their business and no one was buying from them or Crazy 8 (their low end line.) Janie and Jack is the only profitable division and that’s why it’s up for sale and they are still hoping to negotiate a buyer. I love the clothes, always have. My dd wears them a lot. Short of playing in the mud I have no issue with her wearing them to preschool or the playground. It’s fine if you can’t handle the price or don’t like the look but a lot of people do and there has been definite interest in purchasing the brand instead of seeing it collapse like Gymboree.

I can "handle" the price (or afford it, as most people would say who write proper English), but choose not to, because I think it's wasteful to spend 80-120$ on kid's clothes in most cases. If Janie and Jack were sufficiently attractive, they would have found a buyer by now, as it's been reported for months that Gymboree has been trying to sell off its businesses at the brand level.

There is no shame in being poor, PP. Even if you did major in proper English. We’re not judging here on DCUM.

I bought swim trunks there for my toddlers on Black Friday at 7 bucks each.

For the person who said:

You must feel pretty stupid. It's confirmed they're closing all stores. Looks like random clerk knows more then randm troll.

+1 I have 2 boys and it is my go to shop for dressy boys outfits besides Nordstrom.

Awww. My eldest RD was sovereignty she always wore J&J, Gymboree and Crazy 8. She has outgrown that stage. Now, my toddler DR is not dainty and prefers the John Deere line.
