Returned to the District after two years. First impression: Smells like marijuana

I live in upper NW and I've smelled it a few times, maybe 5-10 total--usually emanating from cars driving through, but a couple of times, I think it was coming from homes. Who knew my stodgy neighbors indulged.

I think the reason people seem so sensitive about it is that they know what it is, and associate it with criminal behavior because it was criminalized for so long.

Don’t know how old your kids are, but they will figure it out soon enough.

Why do we have laws that we have no intention of enforcing.

Was the goal of the new decriminalizing law to bring pot out onto the streets in public? If it was. It has apparently succeeded, if not, maybe the MPD does need to spend some time actually enforcing the law as written.

It makes me feel tricked for voting to decriminalize .. I did not take the decision lightly and really wavered. This is basically what I feared, but hoped wouldn't happen. I feel taken advantage of. I'd like the police to ticket - the bigger fish to fry argument is cover for not policing as required.

Yeah, you and the rest of the do-gooders really screwed this up by voting for this. I voted against it, and I enjoy smoking it. The law is so far beyond what was needed - the fact that you can hold up to an ounce on your person and not be considered a dealer was the dealbreaker for me. NO ONE needs to be holding that much with the new potent strains, so of course anyone with an ounce would be dealing. Weed weighs nothing! I worry about all the people smoking in their cars while driving - no way they are better drivers while high and there is no field test for marijuana.

I smell it absolutely everywhere and it's disgusting, even worse than cigarette smoke (and just as bad for the public's health). I was at zoo lights last weekend and wanted to puke the stench was so thick. Gone are the days of good-smelling weed...the crap people smoke now smells terrible. It's making me want to move out of the city, and I love the city otherwise.

I wish we could repeal the law or at least get MPD to crack down on public smoking.

I agree. I hung out with a lot of stoners in college and they always smelled like crap, now the city smells like crap too. I totally regret voting to decriminalize but hold the politicians responsible. They should pressure the police to enforce the law - it's not a free for all / it was written with a lot of restrictions. Enforce!

You need to pay more attention to local politics. They have been slowly eroding the non-enforced restrictions and now Bowser wants to make it fully recreational.

Sometimes I feel that some DC residents live in a parallel universe DC. No gum on the sidewalks, no mumbo sauce, no weed smell, no pot holes, everybody knows how to drive in the snow.

The zoo is federal land, and the feds take a far less benign view of weed, even after the departure of AG Sessions. Plus there are a lot of little kids around the zoo. I say, "Book 'em, Danno!"

You are clearly a bad mother or dad because one can assume that you smoke pot around your young children. You are a threat to their health if not to their general welfare. You should be ashamed.
