Confused by a friend's FB post on college acceptance

Facebook is poison.

But if you didn't apply for financial aid, then there is no financial aid package.

OP here. Exactly. As I mentioned earlier, this family will not be eligible for aid. Nosey? Not really. I did not ask their application status. It was shared publicly on social media, but in a strange way implying that she had not made a final decision...i.e. first acceptance so far and waiting for others. This is what I found confusing.

Not eligible for FA doesn’t mean not applying.

+1; especially given that Tulane has lots of merit scholarships compared to some.

Doesn’t matter. She is bound unless they are not able to afford tuition and get no aid. They can easily swing the full pay.

You can only turn down an ED if financial aid doesn’t come through. Merit awards are not need-based and do not count.

Unless you are you physically with the family when they’re filing their tax returns, you have no idea what they can “easily swing.” Not one.

Just stop. You are a complete weirdo who is bizarrely invested in this.

omg. do you also follow cars with MD license plates home after DCPS drop off to make sure they are in boundary?

Omg, OP is so, so weird.

I would probably post, "Congratulations to Larla. I thought Tulane was ED. '

You miss the original point. She's not bound until the fa decisions are made, regardless of whether there is a genuine insufficiency. It is a timing issuel.

How exactly do you know their detailed financial situation?
You seem awfully invested in someone else's college process.
Let it go. Maybe they're cheating the system. Maybe mom is confused. Maybe she is about to withdrawal all her other apps but here are family politics at play that they are dealing with. Maybe they actually were billionairs a few months ago and dad recently lost it all in some nefarious gambling scheme and will need a full ride somewhere.
Who the hell cares, OP. Let it go.

"Other" decisions ... maybe they aren't sending her to college, not sure. Maybe they're are divorcing and one of them won't pay.

Op, it bothers you. You might post, "I thought Early Decision acceptances were binding?" If you lose a friend over it, you lost a friend over it. Doesn't sound like you respect them, or their decision anyway. Not if they are going to be dishonest. Which is what you're thinking. You can have a higher bar for friendship.

Tulane has both EA and ED. If friend's daughter got in ED, then she is now supposed to withdraw applications to all other universities (but she certainly was allowed to apply). https://admission.tulane.edu/apply/instructions

^^ Also, friend's daughter's college advisor will tell her to now withdraw because that will free up possible positions at the other universities for other students in her high school.
