Confused by a friend's FB post on college acceptance

Anonymous
Friend posted her daughter's photo with letter of acceptance to a school ED. Said it was her first choice, but still waiting for other decisions. Huh? Shouldn't she be withdrawing other applications? They are most definitely not financial aid applicants...definitely full pay.

Oops - she is ignorant. Or, it’s EA, not ED. Which college?

The best approach is t just hit like and say nothing. The kids generally prefer we keep our mouths shut until they make their final decisions.

Some schools let you apply ED and still apply to public universities.

Agree to keep your mouth shut / stay in your own lane. No good will come from commenting anything other than ‘Congrats - he/she must be so excited’

True - but once offered admission, you can’t wait for other offers. You’re suppose to rescind all other apps per the contract.

The school is Tulane. It is definitely ED. Of course I am not saying anything other than Congrats, which is why I am asking over here anonymously. As I understand it, once you are accepted ED, it is binding, and you must withdraw from other applications.

I thought you couldn’t submit any other apps if you apply ED......the high school won’t submit transcripts, etc. Super tacky to post ED admit on FB.

Your google finger was broken apparently. Tulane has non-binding EA. Almost certainly the kid got in that way. Or they really got in ED, and Tulane will deal with it if she tries to withdraw. My understanding is a lot of school have agreed to boycott an ED candidate who withdraws, unless they are formally released for hardship/financial reason. This is so much of a thing that the DOJ is investigating on antitrust grounds.

So if she is waiting for other decision, it is almost certainly EA and what she is doing is completely kosher.

In any case, hit the like button (or don’t) on FB, type Cingrtas in the comments (or don’t). And more on. Not your cattle, not your rodeo.

OP I am embarrassed for you.

OP. It is definitely ED. College Confidential Tulane thread has posts about ED decisions. Not EA. I did my homework.
