Confused by a friend's FB post on college acceptance

Anonymous
Maybe she can't afford it. She got in, but she won't be going there anyway. MYOB.

You are awfully invested. Did your child also apply ED there?

Whoa, that's a risk to post her comments about keeping options open publicly, given the agreements around the ED process.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I thought you couldn’t submit any other apps if you apply ED......the high school won’t submit transcripts, etc. Super tacky to post ED admit on FB.

Why is it super tacky to post an ED admit? My daughter did and so did many others. It's a decision of where she's headed to college.

People are dumb and will post on everything on social media. I'd leave it alone, but I would take it down if I were this person.

It's super tacky to post an ED admit AND say that you're still waiting on other decisions.

+1. I understand why a child might post an acceptance but not a parent. It's a trying time for all of their classmates and that sort of in-your-face boasting is off-putting and tacky.

What? Of course you can submit other apps if you apply ED. Most EA deadlines are the same as ED. If you don't get in ED you need to have other applications (EA or RD) on file so that you have someplace to go to college in the spring.

OP here. This exactly. The family does not need financial aid either as they are very wealthy. So I don’t buy that as a possible excuse for not withdrawing other applications.

Agree to keep your mouth shut / stay in your own lane. No good will come from commenting anything other than ‘Congrats - he/she must be so excited’

True - but once offered admission, you can’t wait for other offers. You’re suppose to rescind all other apps per the contract.

None of your business.

lol, but the ED will surely care.

"Confused" seems to equal nosey here but ED is not binding until TU provides its financial aid package. No need to withdraw other applications until then, and not even then if the financial aid package does not make attendance feasible.

I disagree that its tacky to post ED admits on facebook, its standard practice. It also allows other to take it in privately (and choose not to comment) as opposed to a face-to-face announcements. Years ago I was deferred from my dream school ED and remember how awful it felt to go into school the AM after everyone got their letters.

But if you didn't apply for financial aid, then there is no financial aid package.

OP here. Exactly. As I mentioned earlier, this family will not be eligible for aid. Nosey? Not really. I did not ask their application status. It was shared publicly on social media, but in a strange way implying that she had not made a final decision...i.e. first acceptance so far and waiting for others. This is what I found confusing.
