If you drive a pickup truck in the suburbs, why?

My dad is a contractor and has always had trucks. He is also a neat freak and his trucks always look brand new. It’s not vanity for him.

Well all of those are definitely vanity vehicles. The Tesla at least is a lot less environmentally harmful and even the BMW and Audi are going to get a lot better mileage than a truck and cause less wear and tear on the roads.

But yeah your broader point is a fair one - but are you just figuring out that people make vehicle choices for things that have nothing to do with getting from point A to point B?

That's so hypocritical. Caring about the air around you, not about any other aspects (starting with charging st might when coal is still a big and ending with how those batteries are made). I bet less people were harmed by making a Ford truck than a Tesla.
How do you hear your house, OP. I hope you don't have an AC in it.

honestly, this. I live in California and every other house seems to have a pick up truck. I do believe the guys just like 'em!

They work great in the snow. Esp. if you let the bed fill up with snow too.
Can't tell you how many friends have borrowed our truck over the years!

We camp and backpack and put our stuff in our car and haul it on our back.

I love the people who think they are macho and outdoorsy because they drive their Jeep on the beach or take it off-road. My 6 year old is strong enough to push down on a gas pedal.

Good for you, you tent camp. We go RVing. We need a truck to properly tow our trailer. We aren’t doing it to be “macho”. What’s your point?

OP, you can’t possibly be this dim.

Shouldn't this question be "why are you letting your son ride along with ANY teacher?"

Me too. Actually, a lot of the "bro dads" from that other thread seem to have them. They occasionally like to put surf boards in the back.

As someone who drives a truck, I find that everyone loves to hate on my truck—until they need my truck to get furniture home from IKEA, or to haul that load home from Home Depot. It’s ironic how much they love us then!

I can fit a ton of mulch and Ikea furniture in my minivan with seats down. Minivans are far more functional than trucks for suburban people. But they are so not cool so dudes don't want them.

I can bring along 4 kids and my wife in my truck, and still haul all that stuff.

It's incredibly wasteful - wastes gas, causes extra local pollution (especially if they are diesels), causes extra wear and tear on the road, creates sightline and safety issues for other drivers etc.

One half of my family were farmers until 25 years ago and legitimately used trucks on a daily basis so I know trucks serve a purpose.

But virtually everything you need to haul with a truck you can get delivered around here, usually for free.

So for most people they are vanity cars, plain and simple.

Just look at how few of these trucks have scratches on them. Work trucks get roughed up and vanity trucks don't.

Most cars are vanity cars.

A Tesla is a vanity car.

You can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy.

I mean, why do you drive an SUV when four people can fit comfortably in a sedan?

In other words, who cares?
