It's hilarious that YOU'RE trying to sound smart when in fact a lot of these "theories" are scientific based studies and trials conducted over YEARS of research. Drink milk if you want but telling others that they are emotional schmucks for believing in science and case studies shows your bias. I don't drink milk but I don't care if others do or not. There is a lot of things that others do that I consider unhealthy but it's not my business to point that out to them or make them feel small for believing the way they do. |

Most these posters were the freaks on the "do you let your kids drink OJ" thread.
Neither are that good for you ... moderation people. |
Humans are at the top of the food chain. We can eat/drink whatever we want. |
This. The PP is a fool. I personally still drink milk (or at least dairy products) because I like it so much, but the science is undeniable that it's full of growth hormones, and there have been links between the consumption of growth hormones and the growth of cancer. |

They have a "theory"?
Hand them a bottle of water as long as that's acceptable. |

In response to many messages above:
I hated milk as a child and love it as an adult. Been drinking lots of it since my 20s. Whole milk, please, the other stuff is gross. I am now in my 50s. I am neither overweight nor do i have acne. I also drink a fair amount of soy milk and eat a fair amount of tofu and soybeans. (Hey! I am eating some right now.) But i still need to wear an estrogen patch. My kids don't drink cows milk since my daughter is Asian and it upsets many Asian tummies. My boys are mostly Indian and it upsets lots of Indian tummies. The do drink other types of milk. No boobs on the boys and for daughter not much on her either. We're a "normal family" and we do not eat meat; we are vegetarian. That had to be the weirdest comment above. |
Cats will happily drink cow's milk. Do you also object to butter and cheese? How about if they're made from goat or sheep milk? Or camel? Humans across the globe have been using other species' milk for millennia. |
But we can, and butter and cheese are yummy and people have been eating them since like 6000 BCE. |
The American Cancer Society is not as vehement about this as you are: https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/recombinant-bovine-growth-hormone.html. First of all, not all milk is treated with the man-made hormone at issue, and the other hormone discussed is also present in soy and other foods. Also, as noted in the article, bovine growth hormone is not active in humans, so it won't cause our kids to become 700 lb cows. I too do not like milk (but I love butter), and I buy our dairy from a farmer I trust to do things right by animals and humans. I'll keep following the research, but so far, I see no reason to avoid responsibly produced milk in moderation. |
| My theory is that milk is gross. |
I don’t disagree with your personal approach but I wouldn’t use ACS as a confident source. It’s been clear for some time that they are funded by pharmaceutical corporations and corporate food entities and they put a lot into treating rather than prevention. Prevention is cheap and often includes dietary changes that don’t promote their funding sources’ products. For anyone interested in doing research - make sure you also account for who is funding that research and their nuanced reporting. “Follow the money” works in all levels of society. |
Maybe. I am used to Vegan guests who don't eat dairy, yeast, honey, meat, poultry, seafood. I find nothing odd with it. It's a dietary choice. I try and accommodate all my guests - non-vegetrians, vegetarians., eggetarians, pescetarians, pollotarians, vegans, don't eat beef, don't eat pork, don't eat shellfish, don't eat any roots, people with food allergies, people with food restrictions, people with food aversions.... |

The idea of milk grosses me out. Any way you look at it, it's really weird that we drink cow breast milk meant for baby calves.
I still have half and half in my coffee every morning, and ice cream every now and then. But when you really think about the concept of dairy, it's pretty foul. |

In Asian cultures, milk isn't really popular as in America. We get our calcium from seafood and seaweed so it was never pushed by doctors. My child doesn't like milk either and we never force it upon them. They'll have it with cereal or ice cream but never as a drink. The pediatricians in America constantly ask us if they are eating dairy several times a day and that we really need to.
How is it that a whole continent survives without drinking milk and do not have calcium deficiencies, but in America if we don't then we will?? |
