APS: How many new K classes at each school

Website isn't updated yet. I know there is one 2nd grade teacher leaving to move closer to family, possibly one or two 4th grade teachers, a SpecEd teacher is departing after funding was cut, and the math coach is retiring. No one will know for sure until APS or McKinley posts new hires.

When we moved into the neighborhood we were zoned for Tuckahoe. Then Nottingham. Then McK. So...you're very much mistaken that we paid a premium to live in the McK zone.

APS sets the cap for class sizes at each grade, but I don't have time to find the link for you. I think it's 22 for K, right now. Any APS school cannot go over 22 kids in a K classroom, and a school cannot turn students away so they would somehow need to find a way to create more homerooms if needed. For example, at McKinley right now they have Spanish in trailers. During construction, Spanish was on carts. That would be one option, to move more 4th grade classes into trailers and put Spanish back on carts.

As you know, we said goodbye to: Whitney Smith, reading; Matt Locke, music; Shiraz Bensalem, registrar; Catherine Canary, Lauren Elkins, and Tani Vaughn, 4th grade; Mary Ettelt, kindergarten assistant; Kelsey Fenn, special education; Wafa Ahmed and Rachida Gdid, MIPA assistants; Gerardo Mosqueda, head custodian; Lindy Millman, math coach; Brittany Rodriguez, 5th grade; and, Victoria Weiss, 2nd grade. Can you confirm that special ed teacher left b/c of funding cut? Teachers are recommending special ed and being denied b/c there wasn't enough room last year. The school is over 800. Statistically, that's 120-160 special needs kids. And it's got MIPA (all special ed).

The cap for K/1 is 24 students. Title 1 schools would have a cap one under that, at 23.
