Huh -- I guess I should tell my husband, who went to public schools from kindergarten through getting an MA and an MBA, that he is the labor capitalists use to get richer. Here I was thinking he was the one making money, considering he's a VP at a Russell 1000 company making $350K. I guess he's one of the "lucky few." Of course, I would attribute it to high-quality education and hard work, but thanks for correcting me. I'll tell him it's dumb luck that he beat the odds provided by his crappy education. |
I am deeply embarrassed, on your behalf that you wrote your husband's job and salary on here. I cringe in anticipation of the slaughter which follows... |

Nah, I think you're looking forward to it. |
Hell of a lot of rich boarding school kids at Virginia and Michigan. |
Yep. UMich is usually one of the top destinations for kids at elite private schools, so there’s that. |
Yup. UVA is much less popular, but it's true for Michigan. However, PP is ignorant and narrow-minded, and will undoubtedly figure out a way to twist that fact to fit his/her narrative. |

"Somehow, some tiny LAC in backwoods Maine I've never heard of is a better choice than anything on offer at any of our fine public institutions."
This is is proof that a SLAC is not a good fit for you or your family. SLACs are not for everyone. |
No you just go to the separate ratings of "public university". There you will find Berkeley or UVA at the top, UVA or UCLA at no. 2, etc. Michigan below those three. You cannot compare a SLAC college to a public university. They are apples and oranges. https://news.virginia.edu/content/among-nations-elite-us-news-gives-uva-no-2-public-university-ranking[b] |
The plural of forum is fora |
Why in the world would you post identifying information about your spouse? Many other ways to refute the person you disagree with. I tend to agree with the poster who said methinks you protest too much. And for what it's worth, my sibling's non-MBA spouse owns/works in a very lucrative trade and makes more than your husband. Maybe you should tell your hubby there are plenty folks out there who are not VPs making serious bank too. You and he are not the only game in town. |
?? Go back and read the OP. "Why the snobbery against state universities.?" That pp you;re quoting was saying they are on the list if national universities which include private *Harvard, Yale, Princeton etc.) and publics (Berkeley, UVA etc.) and you need to go down that list to #21 to find a private. I have no idea why you brought up SLACS; completely irrelevant to the point that was being made. |
sorry, find a public. |
I doubt you can identify PP’s husband from this post. |
Perhaps the B students but get real, it’s nobodys first choice. |
