| There's snobbery against everything on these forums. Are you new? |
| Because only plebes attend State schools. If you are poor, private schools give better aid, if you are URM, private schools basically grovel before you to attend. State schools are for the labor class that will always toil for rich folks. Only Plebes think that they can go to state school and cut into the top 1% because some lucky few did. |
The DCUM forums. |
+1 Heaven forbid you mention an Ivy that isn't HYP. You might as well just give up on your child right then and there. Or an HHI less than $250k AT MINIMUM! OMG, how do you poors LIVE on $150k? Do you have to eat roadkill? This place ain't reality. There's a reason DH and I call it boujee moms of DC. |
| You need state universities to supply the labor that capitalists use to get richer. It is a beautiful system. State funded education to supply capitalists with trained labor. You work hard, they take most of the profits. They will never send their kids to sit next to your labor class child at a state school. Only a lucky few will break the class barrier and become capitalists and when they do, their kids will cease to attend state schools. State schools are for the masses. Everybody knows this |
| Go back to your summer reading. |
| I think you are trying to brag OP. Who cares? If you want your kid to go state ... go state. If not, go private. To each his own. No one cares. |
| Because elite private universities are simply better in every conceivable way, save for price. |
And don't forget living anywhere other than NWDC, preferably CCDC. If you're living outside the beltway, you're basically the biggest loser on earth and doomed to a 3 hour commute and no time with your poor neglected family. |
| Why do so many people seem to care what other people think? You do you OP. I had to go to a state university because that's all I could afford (parents wouldn't pay nor could I get aid because they made to much $). So be assured, I saved so my kid could go Ivy. You do you and I'll do me. |
| I personally think the most prestigious thing you can do is start your own firm and be your own boss - sidestep “the man” and all the ass kissing BS. That’s the top of the heap and you don’t even need a degree to do that. |
| I think you are particularly lucky in VA. Some states have kind of meh offerings. |

The truth is there is somewhere for pretty much everyone in the USA and their different academic, social and financial needs. On this board I see a lot of Brown bashing, a lot of UMD bashing and a lot of Oberlin bashing. And a lot of boosting and bashing of other places, along the way.
This should not trouble you OP as it is the nature of both discussion boards and the propensity of people to find favorite and least favorite places to get heated about. |
Well, yeah, what do you expect?
|
| I love that OP is so concerned about snobbishness then piles on Maine “backwater” colleges. Thanks Mr Kettlepot. |
