DS's friend lives far away- report?

Anonymous
Does anyone have a hotline number to report for the MCPS residency compliance office? Is there a different name for it? There are two kids in my children's class who live Howard County. We were given their address for birthday parties and sleepovers. Parents aren't divorced but MoCo is closer to DC for their work.

By all means, report on the face of your mere SUSPICION. Why get bogged down by actual evidence of fraud?

But don’t come back whining that you can’t make any parent friends at school and that your child has no friends at school either...

Interesting case on MCBOE and someone filing to stay in county schools though they did not live in the county.

REALLY!!!!! You provided this information! For What! Y'all do not know what this child and/or parent may be going through.
Please STOP adding unnessasary stress to people's lives.

My DH and I have driven several times 2.5 hours (one way), so that our high schooler DS can visit with his good friend from middle school.
OP, mind your own business; either arrange a playdate or tell your child NO.

If you want to report them, just call the school. No need to make it complicated with fancy hotline numbers.

MCPS is very, very lax with regards to residency requirements. We have dozens of kids at our elementary school who use false addresses. Most parents are pretty upfront about it and the teachers even know (because kids are pretty honest). Nobody really ‘reports’ anything.

Not much you can do. My co-worker lives in Frederick and her kid attends MCPS using a false address.

Just keep telling yourself so you accept your own fraud.

What do you mean ‘your’ fraud? My kids live in bounds. I was just commenting that residency fraud is VERY common in MCPS, especially in ES.

You are SO stupid. Of course we all know that you can’t fix that.

You can report it to your school. But, it is highly unlikely that the school will do much. Schools in MCPS are underfunded and overcrowded with not enough staff. Nobody has the time to chase after residency fraud! That’s why it is so common, IMO.

There are 4 girls on DD’s soccer team who live out of bounds. Two use a grandparents’ address, one uses an aunt’s address and one uses a friend’s address. None of them have a COSA. They have been doing this for years and it has never been an issue.

I guess it’s also very tough to prove residency fraud? If the family above is using a grandparent’s address, then they are having bills sent there. Tough for MCPS to actually prove where the family lives.

My guess is that the family who lived in Howard County has a mailing address in MoCo and used that to get report cards and stuff mailed to. That is what most families do.

OP, what you don't have are facts. Hire a private investigator to get them! Friends don't let friends commit fraud.

Op, decide whether or not you want to shuttle your kid back and forth to Frederick for play dates. But myob with regards to reporting this family, since you do not know their situation.

No it isn't common. You just seem to know a lot of people who disregard the law.

Start reporting it. It costs $15-20k to educate each kid in MCPS, most schools are busting at the seams, classroom caps are at all-time highs, and teacher/student ratios are the worst of all surrounding states.

You report it so the Admin can determine if they are legally attending the school or not. that simple. The district will look into the "situation."

This is factually incorrect.

(The information about the teacher/student ratios may also be factually incorrect, but I don't know.)

Pure speculation.

Just report it and make MCPS do their jobs. I'd report to hotline, individual schools don't deal with this appropriately, if at all.

28 in K,
30 in ES
33 in MS
35 in HS

those are pretty high caps. I called all three a few months ago when trying to decide where to go and that potentially could be your child's classroom size.

See something, say something.
All taxpayers should do that to make MCPS better.
