Not msdb, you will not unless you are insane with it.

Technically with ANY weight loss, you will lose a combination of water, fat and muscle. You cannot tell your body what to get rid of. However, intermittent fasting does not increase/decrease the rate of muscle loss on it's own. A deficiency in protein will increase muscle loss during any caloric deficit.

I really wish the people who posted in this forum would do just a LITTLE bit of research before posting nonsense like "fasting is starving yourself."

So you're arguing there's some science behind "fasting" versus not eating. Lol, okay.

There is actually science behind fasting. It is a different practice than reducing calories by dieting but eating all day long and your body handles it differently.

Google fasting and cancer and fasting and longevity as well. Lots of science out there. Or you could just remain ignorant and argumentative.

How do you handle the migraines?

Honestly never had that problem, but if you do I would bet your body is detoxing from a serious chemical dependency that could be helped by IF. It probably would taper over time if you dealt with acute symptoms with painkillers.
No the migraines have to do with not eating enough protein. I have many food triggers and as a result eat a very "clean" diet- that is how I control them. I haven't used a migraine medication in over twenty years- so I doubt it is a serious chemical dependency. I do take a 81mg aspirin every day- perhaps you consider that a painkiller.

It’s probably electrolyte deficiency (sodium, potassium, magnesium). I’m surprised MD doesn't know that. Then again. . . no, I’m not.

It sounds like your situation is different than most people’s. If you need to eat certain things at certain intervals to deal with medical issues, then IF isn’t for you, right?

You said 2 things that I'm curious about, if you wouldn't mind explaining more. You've got a maintenance and a weight loss regimen. I'm curious how often you and/or your wife find yourselves having to move back to the weight-loss fasting approach.

Also, what do you eat on nonfasting days? Are there any limits on the hours you eat or what you eat?

Thanks!

MS DB again, to answer you other questions. We rarely have to move back to weight-loss other than after December holidays. I will admit, that while I am quite a straight male, I'm not a fan of clothes, and come summer time I wear a smaller swimsuit than most men and I'm quite comfortable in it, but it does motivate me for a bit more of a weight-loss push in the summer months. I'm talking 2-4 pounds difference. Nothing crazy. I wear 34 inch waist pants in the summer months and 36 inch waist pants the rest of the year.

As far as what we eat on non-fasting days, we eat sensibly. We don't count calories, but like I mentioned in my other posts, IF breaks addictions to carbs and other snacky things, so I don't find myself gravitating to them as much as someone else might who doesn't fast. I used to be that way, before IF.

There are no limits on the hours that we eat either

I will say, IF isn't glamorous. It's an exercise in self-discipline but it reaps great rewards in personal development.

That smaller swimsuit talk does wonders for your rep. For all this work, you don’t look better than the average guy. Why is that, with all this work? How old are you and how old is your wife?

MS DB here....I'm not sure I understand your comment, but to answer your question we're both late 30's. Just to clarify, I am not the average guy. I am 6'8" tall, and I have few peers my height and none of them have a 34" waist.

DP. You’re only in your 30’s? I would have guessed mid to late 40’s. My DH just turned 42 and he looks way more cut without counting calories or cutting back anything.

NP: why are you such a jerk? You know it isn’t true, the average person of his height in his late 30snis not in great shape. He is trying to provide helpful advice and for some reason you cannot stand that. What is wrong with your life that you have to put others down to make yourself feel superior? Not a good look.

MD looks like an average late 30’s body to me. Nothing special.

^^and probably 25-29% body fat. For a man, that’s average. Not very lean or muscular.

I don’t think he’s at all average for someone who started as overweight as he was. Most people cannot lose and keep off a bunch of weight. At any rate, I’d like to see any of the people knocking him post their pic and subject it to DCUM!

Unlike MD, most of us are aware and acknowledge we’re average.

MD posted his picture in response to questions about muscle loss while IFing. No one was believing him until he posted a picture.

Yes, his pic confirmed not to do the 24 hour fasts he’s pushing.

MS DB here...The initial reason behind this discussion was for those interested in learning more about IF and the weight loss benefits of it. Muscle retention is something that came up secondarily.

My primary motivator of IF quite honestly is because I want to stay attractive for my wife of 15 years. We like to go hard when we drink some times, and we like to stuff our faces on the carby snacks sometimes too. So yes, those people who track their daily intake and run 6 days a week and whatever else are doing nothing that I would argue about; I mean heck they're happy and getting their results. I'm happy for them. However, the lifestyle of constant discipline, nutrition restriction, tracking calories/macros is a real beat down for some people and they just throw in the towel on trying. A lot of people can do it for a while, but boomerang weight loss is a real problem and we've all seen it or experienced it.

IF isn't a good fit for everyone, such as the hypoglycemic crowd, and I wouldn't argue that other weight loss methods don't work as well, but for some people IF is a great fit (if they'll JUST try it) and it works! I was somewhat amused by the PP troll comment that my picture was proof of it's ineffectiveness. I'm not here to impress anyone, I just want to encourage and educate folks that might be interested in trying something out that could make them healthier if they're struggling to find the right thing. I stand to gain nothing by this, I'm not selling anything. I already deleted from my computer that picture I posted in the other thread, but I took another this morning and put it below for the curiosity of those who want to know what PP was referencing as confirmation that 24 hour fasts are ineffective.

MS DB here...when I was a kid my parents told me that if you just roll with it when people call you names it steals their fire. IDK if it worked, but I rolled with it. lol

You're lucky I already had these in a text chat with my wife. I like to send pics like these to her occasionally.

You ARE requesting this for scientific IF comparative research right? Otherwise I don't see how this request is valid but here you go...
