Which pyramid would you choose - Churchill/Langley or Chesterbrook/McLean?

I don't like Churchill because it is so close to Ball Hills road and it is kinda dangerous in the morning with so much traffics. The same goes with Chesterbrook. There are so many cars using Kirby road to get to Dolley Madison or Turkey Run in the morning to get to DC. Franklin Sherman does not have this problem.

Other than traffics issue, churchill/Cooper/Langley or Chesterbrook/LongFellow/Mclean are both good. I would lean toward Langley because the school is under capacity and it will be done with the renovation in a year or so. Langley is a beautiful school and in the Langley school district, there are no apartments or townhouses. Mclean HS has to take kids from Falls Church area so it might not be as good.

You have a problem that most people envy

That's kind of a screwy post. Franklin Sherman is about 85% McLean,15% Langley, but you favor Langley.

But if you pick something zoned for Langley, you also go to Cooper, which is eveb closer to Balls Hill Road than Churchill Road, but you don't like the traffic there.

And, the Langley district does include some townhouses, and the Falls Church neighborhoods that McLean "has to take" add some diversity that reduces the "affluenza" concerns that some have about Langley.

As PP said, better to just go with the house/commute that make the most sense and not overthink this based on logic that may be internally inconsistent.

Not familiar with Balls Hills Rd. Is it a bad neighborhood?

I am afraid of “affluenza”. Never heard that term before.

Balls Hill is just a main road with quite a bit of traffic.

Like Kirby, Old Dominion, Chain Bridge and Georgetown Pike. Got it. Thanks. This is all very helpful.

We have only driven by both neighborhoods on weekends so have no idea what traffic will be like during rush hour.

And if you are looking further toward McLean HS add Westmoreland and Lewinsville /GreatFalls. Plus, Chesterbrook Road between Kirby and Glebe.

All of these roads get more traffic than the typical suburban street. Balls Hill Road may have singled out by PP because it is so close to the Georgetown Pike entrance to, and exit from, 495.

Prefer Chesterbrook, only sfhs

Traffic in Mclean (inside the beltway) during rush hour is not bad. There are some traffic jams near schools in Mclean but that happens around all schools during start/dismissal times. There are more cars on the roads, but it's doesn't get snarled like around Tysons Corner at rush hour. There is heavy traffic on 123 and 193 near the beltway during rush hour, but it's NBD. I think the traffic jams are much worse during rush hour in Great Falls than McLean inside the beltway. There is way worse traffic in the outer burbs than inside the beltway in Mclean.

There are some townhouses in McLean zoned for Churchill Road and other McLean elementary schools that cost more than some of the single-family houses zoned for Chesterbrook.

You must be joking. Getting through McLean during rush hour is an absolute nightmare.

Langley also offers Russian.

Langley also offers Chinese at Marshall Academy.

McLean offers Chinese on site. But if you have a kid who wants to take an Academy class at Marshall or Falls Church, it’s a shorter bus ride from McLean.

There are some other electives that McLean offers that Langley does not, and vice versa. For example, McLean is offering AP Capstone next year, and Langley is not. That said, both schools schools offer plenty of interesting electives.

Does McLean offer the two-week internship program at the end of senior year? It's called Langley Leap and is a highlight for seniors.

A "bad neighborhood"? Hardly. And "affluenza" is simply a term people use when they don't like wealthy people, simply because they're wealthy.

Not PP, but the traffic in McLean once you get out of Tysons is not bad at all compared to some places outside the Beltway.

Commuter traffic passing through McLean to get to Tysons or to DC tend to be heaviest on 123, Old Dominion and Great Falls. But other roads the locals use are okay.

Yes, but it’s not called “Langley Leap” there.
