Which pyramid would you choose - Churchill/Langley or Chesterbrook/McLean?

All the McLean elementary schools are good. There is no real logic to claiming Chesterbrook and Spring Hill are better than Churchill Road. There are some differences - Spring Hill is bigger than the other two, and Churchill Road is an AAP center, so it has AAP students from other schools while Chesterbrook and Spring Hill do not. I do think you’d find that more of the kids in the Churchill Road district attend private school than in the Chesterbrook and Spring Hill neighborhoods.

Langley also offers Russian.

Avoid Churchill neighborhoods that run along 495. Air quality is bad especially in July and August.

Chesterbrook, Mclean is better. Avoid Langley.

What’s wrong with Langley?

Base your decision on house and commute. The rest is a coin toss. You’ll find champions on both sides, neither choose is a loser.

Is the neighborhood the one behind Cooper and Saint Luke? Friends live there and it’s a great neighborhood.

Yorktown & Discovery/Jamestown/Taylor would be the best option.

OP isn't asking about Arlington.

Langley also offers Chinese at Marshall Academy.

Nothing that any other high school has to deal with. PP's just the typical rumor-monger who I'm sure is just dying to tell you "what's wrong" with Langley.

McLean offers Chinese on site. But if you have a kid who wants to take an Academy class at Marshall or Falls Church, it’s a shorter bus ride from McLean.

There are some other electives that McLean offers that Langley does not, and vice versa. For example, McLean is offering AP Capstone next year, and Langley is not. That said, both schools schools offer plenty of interesting electives.

I prefer Franklin Sherman because the school is right behind Bank of America, within walking distance to Giant, Safeway, downtown Mclean, etc... I don't like Churchill because it is so close to Ball Hills road and it is kinda dangerous in the morning with so much traffics. The same goes with Chesterbrook. There are so many cars using Kirby road to get to Dolley Madison or Turkey Run in the morning to get to DC. Franklin Sherman does not have this problem.

Other than traffics issue, churchill/Cooper/Langley or Chesterbrook/LongFellow/Mclean are both good. I would lean toward Langley because the school is under capacity and it will be done with the renovation in a year or so. Langley is a beautiful school and in the Langley school district, there are no apartments or townhouses. Mclean HS has to take kids from Falls Church area so it might not be as good.

That's kind of a screwy post. Franklin Sherman is about 85% McLean,15% Langley, but you favor Langley.

But if you pick something zoned for Langley, you also go to Cooper, which is eveb closer to Balls Hill Road than Churchill Road, but you don't like the traffic there.

And, the Langley district does include some townhouses, and the Falls Church neighborhoods that McLean "has to take" add some diversity that reduces the "affluenza" concerns that some have about Langley.

As PP said, better to just go with the house/commute that make the most sense and not overthink this based on logic that may be internally inconsistent.
