11 speed cameras vandalized in DC !!!

The hypocrisy is astounding! I am really shocked to read the number of comments that support criminal behavior. It appears that breaking the law is acceptable only if you disagree with the enforcement. At the end of the day, taxpaying residents will have to pick up the cost of new cameras.

This is what teens should be doing rather than gaming and worrying about society's ills.

I'm glad someone did it... take that money hungry DC Government.

You may not care about kids' safety, but I'll bet the majority of us does.

Yeah, all those photo enforcement cameras on 295 are just about “kids’ safety,” right?

Congress told DC that it could not impose a commuter tax. Problem solved.

So they're just "stickin it to the man!"

It's strictly about revenue generation, not safety. DC has been caught repeatedly on this.

Don't even bother arguing the "safety" bullshit. No one believes that.

You mean the big stink someone raised because they counted the revenue in their budget planning? As they are legally required to do?

There are so many speed traps around the city it's ridiculous. There are multiple cameras set up at the bottom of hills, and you have to be stepping on your brakes to go the posted limit. It's a complete scam. In other parts of the country, class actions have been brought to challenge cameras and some have been successful. It's time for one in DC!

I have been driving in DC for 20 years and have had exactly one speed ticket. I have no problem with them. If you are in such a hurry to get back to VA or MD, maybe you shouldn’t come into the city in the first place.

I wonder which contractor DC uses to manage their cameras, how much that company gets, and which council member is friends with a top-exec.

But it's for public safety

You'll have to organize a bunch of non-district residents (including tourists) to get enough for a class. Only then, they will lack standing, and the suit will be dismissed.

DC hates the tourists who help support it.

WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE DRIVERS?

Nobody gives a shit. Don't like it? Don't speed.

Sick and f4cking tired of out of city drivers speeding through District streets, putting lives at risk because they feel entitled to drive as fast as they want.

I don't understand this post at all - I took drivers ed and don't recall any caveat about speed limits not applying at the bottom of hills? So yeah you may need to apply your brakes sometimes to go the speed limit - you also need to apply your brakes to come to a stop at a stop sign or red light.

I can't think of a camera that is even located at the bottom of a hill, not that it matters.

And I seriously doubt many, if any, tourists are getting traffic camera citations. Most people from outside the northeast are much less aggressive than people around here are (and you have to go 11MPH over the speed limit to get a ticket so you have to really be speeding) and most tourists get around DC without their cars, if they even bring them.

Most of the citations are going to impatient commuters.

What, by the way, would be the basis for a class action suit? Disgruntled MD commuters have been discriminated against for being cited for driving 11MPH over the speed limit? LOL

Slow down and you won't get tickets - I don't care if it is condescending to you when I say this but it actually is that simple.
