There are so many speed traps around the city it's ridiculous. There are multiple cameras set up at the bottom of hills, and you have to be stepping on your brakes to go the posted limit. It's a complete scam. In other parts of the country, class actions have been brought to challenge cameras and some have been successful. It's time for one in DC!
You'll have to organize a bunch of non-district residents (including tourists) to get enough for a class. Only then, they will lack standing, and the suit will be dismissed. DC hates the tourists who help support it.
I don't understand this post at all - I took drivers ed and don't recall any caveat about speed limits not applying at the bottom of hills? So yeah you may need to apply your brakes sometimes to go the speed limit - you also need to apply your brakes to come to a stop at a stop sign or red light. I can't think of a camera that is even located at the bottom of a hill, not that it matters. And I seriously doubt many, if any, tourists are getting traffic camera citations. Most people from outside the northeast are much less aggressive than people around here are (and you have to go 11MPH over the speed limit to get a ticket so you have to really be speeding) and most tourists get around DC without their cars, if they even bring them. Most of the citations are going to impatient commuters. What, by the way, would be the basis for a class action suit? Disgruntled MD commuters have been discriminated against for being cited for driving 11MPH over the speed limit? LOL Slow down and you won't get tickets - I don't care if it is condescending to you when I say this but it actually is that simple.
