OP here. I thought about it and while I enjoy walking since it’s with friends, it’s just not sustainable for me since I have to get up at 4:45am to be done before 6:00 since that’s what their schedules dictate. I feel like a zombie for the rest of the day and can’t get as many workouts in as I’d like since I’m sleep deprived. This morning I got up at 6:00 and did a light weight workout at home and I felt much better afterward. I think I can do that around 3 mornings per week and also get in some walking or yoga on the weekends. I got a vegan protein powder and started making that for breakfast. I got a bar of good quality dark chocolate and allow myself one (or two) squares after dinner and then that’s it.
Hopefully this will help make a difference! |
Get at least 30 minutes (1 hour is better though) of activity a day. I like walking outdoors because I get the exercise plus the fresh air really helps my mood. If you get toward the end of the day and haven't had activity, do an exercise video or pushups/situps, etc.
Cut down sugar and carb intake. You may already be doing this with the gluten free thing, not sure. Keep the carbs and sugar to a minimum. |
I think you should start doing barre classes. I started and it's intense. The change in my body is very motivating. |
I was just going to recommend this. I love barre and it may be easier on your body than orange theory. I also find it relaxing in a bizarre way. I didn't read this entire thread, but can you sneak other activity into your day? maybe get off the metro one stop before your office and walk the rest of the way or park at a parking lot half a mile from work or walk around the office park a few times before going in. |
I’m a teacher so I’m already running around all day. The neighborhood where I work isn’t that safe so unfortunately walks are out before or after work. I used to do barre and really liked it but the closest studio is about 20 mins from my house without traffic. It ends up being a 2 hour event and I don’t have that much time. Things I can do at home will be what I’ll have most success with. -OP |
I'd recommend the barre3 workouts you can stream online. I think they are great if you have done barre before. IMO the best of their workouts require hand weights and a ball, but those are not that hard to get. Good luck! |

Sounds silly but add in some yoga. I see you are only 5'1" and yoga is great for making you appear taller and slimmer. It will also help you keep tone and avoid injury. |
