| I would always want the principal of my kids' school to send their kids there as well. The policies would be good enough for his/her kids as well and I would imagine their kids would give them honest feedback about how things are running. |
+1. She's the freaking principal, not a politician. What's the big deal about her kid going to the school where she works? |
wasn't that just for the single year they did the review? did they ever look at the other years of her tenure? |

I actually find it off putting that staff members can’t bring their children to their school (obviously if they live within dc). I taught in another state in a huge school system and principals could sign off on family members to come to their school. It felt like a family school and it helped with building bridges to the community.
Someone will probably tell me I’m wrong but it made it nice for families and nice for the community members to see the buy in from staff and that their families came to that school. |
Is this your first thread on DCUM? Literally every other one is about there not being enough room at the most desirable schools. That’s without inviting teachers and principals kids. Enjoy your fantasy world |
Because government employees shouldn’t get special treatment at the expense of other citizens. The issue isn’t whether a principal could or should send their kid to their school. By virtue of her position, this principal had access to the chancellor, asked a favor, and the result was something no other citizen got. That seat could have gone to any number of needier or more deserving kids. DC principals make over $150 grand a year. Go rent an apt in Nw if you want to attend Wilson |
The school is overcrowded. If Martin's kid hadn't gotten in, no one else would have. Her kid was accepted at SWW, but wanted to play football. He could have clearly gone to any other comprehensive high school as an OOB student. The email traffic in the IG report makes it clear that Kaya Henderson and Nathaniel Beers knew full well that this looked bad, but thought there was a low chance of it becoming public knowledge. As for teacher preference, there are 4100 teachers in DCPS. There's not room for them all to get exceptions. |
Her hours are too long for her son to go anywhere else. |
Puh-leaze. He's in high school. He can get himself to and from school like any other high school student. |
Principal Martin is that you??!! LOL! |
No, principal's kids get away with all kinds of acting out |
| I want to know which non profit it was? |

Nope. Just someone who sees how dedicated she is. |
