From the Washington Post:
"Henderson acknowledged to investigators she had given special treatment.... When she was asked about why she helped City Administrator Rashad M. Young, a top member of the cabinet of D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D), she said D.C. officials 'do not necessarily get paid as much as we should.' Young earns a salary of $295,000, Henderson said." As reference points, the Chief Justice of the United States makes $255,500. The Vice President of the United States makes $230,700. And poor Rashad makes $295,000 which makes him deserving of special perks. Talk about a DC entitlement mentality. |
FYI that is an old salary figure. His salary this year is $349,870. See here: https://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/news/loose-lips/article/20862615/has-city-administrator-rashad-young-become-a-liability-for-bowser |

okay, $350k is too much.
I think DC statehood would help get rid of some of this entitlement as the structure of a state government would allow for more oversight. Just my thought. |
Yeah right. It will only invite more grifters! |
Catania was one guy who seemed genuinely interested in rooting out corruption and incompetence and look what that got him |
Exactly. Just think, double the patronage opportunities, as DC moves to create parallel municipal and state functions. And imagine a governor with criminal pardon power. Care to think what Marion Barry could have done with that? |
| Unlike city councils in many other cities, our council members can hold their seat and a full time job. It's essentially a full pay part-time if they choose |
How many do? I think it's less common than it used to be, yes? |
| I don't know. I just think it's weird as they are paid a full time salary. |
