In a lot of countries the vast majority of prostitutes are not victims of sex trafficking. The media makes it sound like they are all forced into prostitution, which isn't the case. You don't see the pimp/prostitute dynamic much in some countries. The problem with the secret service in Colombia was that they were acting like jerks and didn't pay her. |
| The psychological stress of deployment can be a lot. And sex helps relieve that stress and anxiety. All natural stress relief. |
| Not just the deployed soldiers, my neighbor is active military and I am pretty certain he is cheating on his SAHM wife based on several observations I have seen, particularly how he very quickly gets off his cell phone each time I see him away from his house. |
| What many don't know is that, until the 1990's, the US military actually sanctioned prostitution as a was to keep soldiers happy in places like the Philippines and South Korea. At the time of its closing in 1992 Clark AB in the R.P. had over 300 bars and 3000 bar girls. The Military Police there conducted a town patrol and had a list of approved bars and those ones off limits. All the bars were registered with the base and prostitution was known. A "short time" with these girls was $10 and an "all night" date was $20. The base hospital kept a record of all these bar girls and if someone were to catch an STD the patient would have to ply through binders of bar girl pictures kept at the hospital to pick out the one they got it from. The town patrol and local police would then pull the girl out of the bar to be treated. Kinda like Uncle Sam pimp. |
Clubs and strip clubs are mild. It's the whore houses you need to worry about. |
| Wife of former USAF NCO here. It is pretty rampant. Our last duty station was Dover AFB in Delaware. Plenty of spouses would head down to the beaches to party while the military member was deployed. Seacrets in Ocean City was very popular. |
I need to head to Seacrets the next time I am in Ocean City apparently. Thanks for the idea. |
Funny story- I have a friend in the Navy who was once stationed on an aircraft carrier out of Norfolk. These carriers hold 5000 sailors and go out on six month deployments. On the day his carrier was to deploy he was held back for logistical reasons. That night he went to the Petty Officers club on base and recognized several of his shipmates' wives hanging with strange men. They asked him what he was doing there and he told them the ship had a problem, had to return to port, and had docked an hour ago. He told me the place cleared out faster than an Ariana Grande concert. |

Not all men cheat. Mine did not. His wife did. I was concerned why he was divorced and asked several people, including the ex-wife of his ex-wife's boyfriend. I didn't want to marry someone who cheated on his first wife. Its very common but not all men are cheating. |
Hilarious! |
So you are saying use a condom, got it. |

Ha I'm a military wife now. I knew girls in college who had boyfriends over seas... every single one of them cheated on their significant other. But they were 19-21, so I can see that.
Now my DH is a doc. I'm always shocked with his stories of married friends that ask him for a VD prescription. I don't know any names, but I can guess. I think military life can be really stressful and lonely. I hate to hear about it, but I can understand why it would be more prevalent than in the civilian community (although honestly I don't think there is evidence of that, despite what it may seem on this thread) On a side note- it is illegal for an active duty military member to cheat on their spouse, although it is hard to actually prosecute. I found this: There are three "Elements of Proof" for the offense of Adultery in the Military: That the accused wrongfully had sexual intercourse with a certain person; That, at the time, the accused or the other person was married to someone else; and That, under the circumstances, the conduct of the accused was to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces or was of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces. |
I've slept with several USAF wives while they're husband was overseas in active duty. I'm not military but have worked on several USAF installations. So, yes, it does happen and was easy. |
Big difference between being deployed to a base in Afghanistan or Kuwait, and being on a one year unaccompanied tour to South Korea or Kosovo. South Korea was 100% drinking 100% of the free time, which was pretty frequent for officers and enlisted (even junior enlisted, who aren't allowed to drive partially for this reason). STDs and cheating were rampant. There are local women everywhere. Do I think everyone does it? No. But there is waaaaay too much drinking. Way too much. And people make bad choices. And the women talk to each other; they know how to make it look bad enough that a soldier may find himself divorced first (texts, chats, invitations home, showing up at the hotel if the family visits, etc..). |
