It's rampant. I've been married for ages, and I am good friends with some military guys. Since I've always been married, they view me more as a friend than as some woman they might be interested in, so they're more honest with me than I think they otherwise might be. Cheating, hookers, strip clubs, other girlfriends are all rampant in the military, even among the more upstanding guys.

I've heard enough to pretty much assume that, when a guy is deployed, at least one member of the couple (the one overseas or the one home) is or has cheated.

I should add that many of these guys will have sex with a hooker that they are fairly certain is HIV positive, but they'll just wear a condom. A lot of these guys would swear up and down that these things never happened while deployed.

I agree - I went through three deployments and never screwed around until my third when I discovered my wife had been screwing around since almost day 1. I couldn't believe what an idiot I was for being faithful. I was in Germany for about six months at the end of my service and really enjoyed Prague and other eastern Europe cities. Needless to say I got divorced.

Face it, being overseas for extended periods is not conducive to being faithful. My dad was in Europe for almost three years during WW2 and while he was in a relationship/engaged to my mother I can't believe he was "faithful" that whole time. They got married soon after his return and I'm pretty confident that he was faithful for the next 66 years until my mother died. From the day they met he absolutely adored her but being away that long in danger affects you.

I don't know any man, that can go far away from his woman, for a very long period of time, mainly be around a bunch of other men, and not end up either 1) Cheating, or 2) Gay. It's one or the other, if not both.

Cheating in the general population is 25-75% so I am sure the military is in that range. Few people are faithful, don't expect military to be saints.

A lot of women are attracted to men in uniform. These men have women throwing themselves all over them, especially in foreign countries where women can have a much better lifestyle getting a military sugar daddy and selling their bodies for sex, than they can trying to make a living where they came from.

These women sell the fantasy, and the military men buy it up, especially the ones who have never had that kind of female attention before. Add in that these women come with zero responsibilities and are beautiful, well what man could resist that. Hormones will eventually win the battle over marriage vows.

The good news, is that once they come home they'll probably be fairly loyal...until the next deployment. And you have to hope they don't catch anything nasty while deployed and bring it home to you.

Buddies would do leave weeks in Dubai for tours in Afghanistan and Iraq - strip clubs are illegal, so the workaround is full-brown girlfriends, mistresses, and common law wives. Of the expat and local variety.

I have a single non-military buddy who visits Dubai often for work. There's plenty of prostitution there. The hookers are at bars and nightclubs.

Army doctor here. Luckily, due to the nature of my work and high demand for my specialty, my family has been able to travel with me to all of my stations . Longest I've been depolyed without family was 3 months.

I would never ever ever marry a military man (I married a teacher and his job travels with him basically). The cheating is rampant and often disgusting. The number of venereal diseases we see from sex workers and unprotected sex is really awful.
