Bad hosts

No. I wasn't offered anything the entire time, during the party or after. I helped myself to a glass of water. I wouldn't have drink anyway as I had to drive home, but it would be thoughtful to offer.

Now I fully with you. That's not a party. Nobody bothered to make guests comfortable.

+1. Me too. Sorry about all of this.

It's weird that a family with kids has an almost empty fridge. I wonder if they spent their food budget on that party. Maybe they couldn't afford a big spread at home.

Where did SIL go to get food that then had to be reheated?

We eat dinner at 5pm (my kids are hungry after school and go to bed on the early side) so mine would have eaten the pizza greatfully.

I wouldn't buy a second meal for after I served a meal even if it was a weird time.

And you will invite people over? No food, no drinks?

Agreed. When you host your own parties, you can do them your way, and I'm sure you will be a perfect and exemplary hostess.

If your kids were hungry at her house, why did you have to ask her to get them something or if she could order delivery? Could you not have googled and ordered something yourself? This is family - no need to be helpless. She probably just didn't think of it because pizza was served at the party.

So dramatic. You need to teach your kids a little resilience.

If this is family, you need to be less helpless. Are you a single mom? Is she? Where are the husbands in the trek through the desert to get food?

I asked if there was a place I could order from or a store i could run to - I don't know their area well and also didn't know if she did have a plan for dinner that just hadn't materialized. And again, her kids were the first to say they were hungry!

My husband couldn't be there because of work. Both SIL and bil were there.

Did you ever figure out where she went to get food, why it took her so long to get it and why it was cold by the time she brought it home?

She bought refrigerated and frozen food from a grocery, meatballs, a chicken dish, vegetables and salad. All perfectly nice food.
