That's a good as you'll get. The schools are rated highly, but I'm sure people are happy enough.
You are priced out of South Arlington.

APS Schools are overcrowded and getting worse each year....

Overcrowded but still the best in the area.

Not counting the area on the other side of the river of course

He works near The Navy Yard/NATS stadium in SW DC but goes to to work early at 5:30am so misses most traffic. Commute would be more challenging for ride home at 5pm.

Woof. 30-45 minutes from anywhere in VA to the Navy Yard is a tall order. I might suggest Kingstowne (Hayfield, Island Creek, or Lane elementary). It looks like 22308 in Alexandria (Stratford Landing/Waynewood ES) is too pricey these days. 22151 outside the beltway would feed to Kings Park/Kings Glen which are great, but again, 30-45 minutes to Navy Yard is a stretch.

Thanks for all the input and house links! We have been looking at the waynewood school district as we are currently renting in Alexandria now and my DH commute is very easy with leaving at 5:30am now. The rating for Waynewood is high - does that accurately reflect the school in comparison to other highly rated NOVA elementary schools?

We used to live in waynewood as well but moved due to schools. The ES is not bad, but the middle school and high school are horrible. If you decide to stay, just consider moving in a few years when your kids hit MS or go private. We chose to buy someplace we wouldn't have to move in a few years, and had to rent an extra year to be able to afford a house in one of the better school districts.

Racist much?

The UMC kids who stay in the pyramid do very well at West Potomac.

The poster isn't racist. It's a reality that Sandburg and West Potomac have some concerns. I posted suggesting Belleview (22306). We also moved to avoid middle and high school since we would have sent our children to private.

Do tell. Be honest, those "concerns" involve brown and black kids, don't they?

You could find a nice townhouse in West Springfield. Look at Daventry. A single family will be tough with that budget. Schools are great. My husband also commutes to the Navy Yard. Takes about 30 min any time leaving before 6:15. Leaving there at 5 will take an hour most days. You have to leave by 3:30 to get the 30-40 minute commute home.

Of course they do. This is one of the more racist threads I've seen on DCUM lately. Some posters should be ashamed of themselves, but alas, they are not. Business as usual, amirite?

NP. No dog in this fight, but as a general matter, you have hit upon the million dollar question.
