Houses in Falls Church are not under 500k. |
| Your price range and commute needs make it hard. Look at Belle View Elementary. You will hear mixed things about Route 1 but buying at that price close to DC is difficult. We used to live in that neighborhood and it was nice being close to Old Town and the Potomac River. |
| Check out McLean House Condominiums in McLean Center. You should be able to get a 2 or 3 bedroom in your price range. The morning commute would be fine, but the afternoon commute would be longer than your 40 minute time. Franklin Sherman/Longfellow and McLean HS are excellent schools. |
APS Schools are overcrowded and getting worse each year.... |
Yeah right, and it has close to a $1000 condo fee. |
| Falls church city has excellent schools. |
Yep- and OP can't even afford that. |
See what I found on #Zillow! https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/6625-Cavalier-Dr-Alexandria-VA-22307/51957313_zpid I'd say look near belle view or waynewood maybe? |
| I would suggest Bowie in the Whitehall district. My friend's kids have had an excellent education and if your kids get into TAG/Heather Hills... even better. |
|
OP, you can not get what you want. 30 min to Navy Yard from NOVA is, in itself very unlikely unless DH goes in at 6.
500K? Unfortunately, you need a time machine to find good schools, close in and 500K. My neighborhood (Vienna), for example, we have good schools, 35 min commute to my office (would be 1 hr + to navy yard at rush hour), and tear downs are going for about 600K. There might be locations in Alexandria that will support a shorter commute, and the price, but you will sacrifice the schools. |

Overcrowded but still the best in the area. |
