Suburbia - Post Your Commute Time in Rush Hour

Anonymous
Arlington to Georgetown takes 20-30 min driving at approx 8:30am. If I leave earlier or later it's faster but unfortunately that's the time I can get out the door. Takes 5-10 min without traffic, just depends on the timing of the lights.

At what time of day? 5am? I commute from the same area to Navy Yard and it takes me 25 minutes on a GOOD day, more like 35 regularly. I leave my house at 7am.

That said, time of commute (ex: 7am) and END of commute are also factors here.

IF you have a place to shower/change at work, and IF you are not dropping a kid off on the way, I would suggest you might want to try biking. I do that in 45 minutes on my bike, and I am not particular fast or "elite". It's mostly a pretty comfortable route.

not everyone has the "luxury" of living so close to a methadone clinic

I lived in Hyattsville, on Michigan and committed downtown every day to Metro Center. It took me 45 minumum. You are lying.

Either this is at 6am or you are taking a helicopter.

Man, who knew that along with your Potomac McMansion you also got a time travel machine!

One of us goes from 22205 to Tysons. Heading in around 7:30 it's about 15min. That time varies if we leave earlier or later.

The other commutes to an office near the WH. If we leave NLT 7:30 it's 20min using Rt 50 to the Roosevelt Bridge. After 7:40 and it can take upwards of 30-45min using the same route.

Upper McLean - 45 min in rush hour (driving).

Pimmit Hills to Foggy Bottom:

- silver line metro 35 minutes
- driving in the am: from 20 min to an hour
- driving in the pm: reliably 25 to 30 minutes. Both driving times assume Rt 66.

Seriously. I had someone tell me she could get to the Hill from Bethesda in 30 min.

Also I think people are not truly calculating door to door. They'll count the time they are on the metro only or only once they're on the highway

I guess it depends on where you are going downtown. We live further out but just this morning I checked my clock after I passed through Potomac village and I was inside my office at work at Dupont 45minutes later

Glad you are at least starting at 45 min and not a wishful 30 min.
You are starting your clock not at your house but some other place (what is Potomac Village). So that shaves off another 5-10 min.
Then, Dupont is not downtown. Getting down to K street or farther from MD would easily add another 10-15 min. I know this because I work in Dupont circle and DH works down by gallery place. His commute is easily another 20 min.

Takoma Park, near the library, to Thomas Circle, door-to-door 45 minutes via foot and metro.

Northern Silver Spring > Old Town: 60-75 minutes in car (metro would be 2.5 hours)

Chevy Chase MD to Metro Center
35-50 min by car on a normal day.

Pre 6am, post 9pm: 20-25 min

If leave by 7:30: 30-35 min.

Afternoon/evening commute is always longer for some reason.
