I feel like there is a lot of speculation on how long a commute is from certain suburbs. Post your town and your typical commute time. Include whether your driving, taking metro, or both.
Upper McLean - 45 min in rush hour (driving). |
Alexandria (FFX) - 40 min in rush hour (driving). |
| Potomac (right by the village): ~35min to K St |
| Bethesda - 45-50 min (driving and metro) |
I'm PP. If there's an issue on Canal Rd, I buckle up and take sleeping pills because we're going to be there awhile. |

Are you assuming people work downtown?
We live in Potomac (just north of Montgomery Mall). Me: 7 mins to Rockville DH: 15 mins to Bethesda |
| Shirlington (S. Arlington). 15 minutes driving to Foggy Bottom. About 45 minutes to 1 hour to bus. |
|
Arlington, VA 12 minutes (driving); 18 minutes if I bike to work (to McLean/Tysons)
|
| Vienna. An hour to foggy bottom. |
| Some of these posted times are clearly wishful thinking--or not truly rush hour. |
| Hyattsville: 10 mintues |
No freaking way, unless you're leaving before 6 am after 9 pm. More like an hour to an hour and a half each way |
not everyone has the "luxury" of living so close to a methadone clinic |
I bet it would take 30min at 2am on a sunday even taking falls to clara barton then all the way down to the G-town expressway. |
Agreed. When we lived in Potomac, a realtor swore to us that he could make it downtown in 30 min. My husband's commute to DC was more like an hour during rush hour; 30 min was only during off hours. |
