Research suggests it is and it isn't. It is in the sense that you can put more into savings and spend more on things you enjoy (but these are ephemeral gains). It's not in the sense that you're still working, sleeping, eating, and spending time with people and hobbies. This is why people in poor countries are generally as happy (or happier) as folks in rich ones. |
| $65k combined at 25 (that was decent back then). $1.2m combined last year. Not sure how that info helps you though. |

$250K at 25
$375K at 42 One of us is a federal physician who could make twice as much in the private sector tomorrow (but feels passionately about what the fed job does). We've never made career decisions based on money so our income curve would be different if we had. |
| Why is a single person's income growth irrelevant for this comparison? |
|
Well I am 25 now; together my fiance and I make ~$215K
I too wish I could see the future re. money! I would have so much less anxiety. |
| ~$80k when we were married 6 years ago. Two teachers, and our incomes have not gone up much at all. |

Thinking back, I'm estimating 90k. Most of that from me. Some from DH who was finishing grad school.
Now at 32, we've pretty much reversed roles. 102k+ in a cheaper metro area. |
| 110k or so? We each made like 50-60k then. We're 30 now, so it wasn't that long ago. |
| We were 110k combined at 25. At 38, we now are just over 300k. |
So do you guys make a split even? I am going for grad school in a couple years. Hubby has graduate degree. |
| We were dating. HHI of probably 37k (I was a few years into a job and he was in law school). About 115 when he got out, a few months later, and now (10 years later) about 325. Married now for 8 years or so n |
| $42k. I was still in law school, so only H was working. |
Always puzzled by this. 1.2M is essentially unlimited income (assuming you don't overstretched on fixed expenses) -- I would be off doing way more interesting things than DCUM! |
+1 |
Maybe they are like Johnny Depp, overspending on stupid shit. |
